The joke is the executive branch and all of his flunkies in Congress; and unfortunately, the joke is on all of us. Same bad joke, and I am tired of laughing. Rhetorical question for you MAGA acolytes, if "all lives matter" than why the hell don't any of you wear masks and stop being dumb azzes?

Expect everyone to be really conservative on this. Oregon will not want to take risks when their neighbor is proceeding cautiously.

I assume they will do exactly as California did and push everything back.

At least one local high school has cancelled the camps they had planned for this week.

                      I think no sports

There are so many high school and college conference cancelling and postponing it is only a matter of time for OSAA doing the same.

I am hoping that there will be extensive studies on the effects of the shut down of schools and sports on the psychological health of our youth.

It’s going to be 100,000 times greater than the .00039 chance of dying of covid-19.

I know people in their cozy homes with high speed WiFi, big backyards to play in, plenty of money in the bank etc., will be ok. This is a nightmare for tens of thousands of kids in the metro area who aren’t so fortunate.

I agree, we need study the effects. I would argue sports give kids, especially kids in poverty, a false hope of financial success after high school and college. With a much greater focus on academics supported by family first, neighborhoods, and then the larger community we will begin to a see a change is economic diversity that is growing larger and larger.

Sports give kids in poverty: structure, discipline, camaraderie and in many cases it gives them a pathway to college. It keeps them: off their phones, off the streets, out of the parks loitering, it keeps the good looking low-income girl from spending too much time with boys at a young age. In many cases a good coach provides a parent like figure that many don't have at home.

Good coaches pay attention to grades. A lot of football players are only keeping their grades up in order to stay on the football team.

For higher income kids, sports keeps them from trouble. Idle time is the biggest enemy of kids. Keep them busy and teach them good habits and those usually carry on for the rest of their lives.

Sounds like sports, well doesn't sound like sports you actually reference it in your post "A good coach provides a parent like figure that many don't have at home." The problem isn't that we can't have sports right now. The problem is parenting. The problem is parents don't provide these things. We need to shift the focus off the coach acting like a parent and hold parents accountable for parenting. Is this day and age we all afraid of taking on the root cause.

I would support those studies. If they do not cancel, then I would also counter that they conduct studies of the psychological effects on kids that played, became infected and of course due to the ".00039%" chance of being seriously infected by COVID, then passed the virus onto parents and loved ones. We both know that the stats are not so favorable in that scenario, right? I get it, sports play a huge part in kid's lives, and this has been horrible. However, your child and mine are not going to play sports forever. This virus is real, and is teaching them a whole hell of a lot more about themselves and the real world than soccer.

So spare me your sanctimonious BS about the have and have not kids/families. My child is a have not in the grand scheme of things. But, he does have his health. He has both parents, and he is learning about character right now. Don't rely on sports to teach your kids about life and character, be a parent and do it yourself. This is the new normal, and amateur hour is over.
