The one thing this pandemic has proven is that there are truly two America’s. The scene you describe is vastly different from a kid living in a small apartment or crowded house, home alone all day with parents working “essential” service jobs for minimum wage. It’s nice that the kids in your neighborhood have the space and ability and safe surroundings to play outside. But for many kids, being out of school leads to malnutrition. For many kids, being out of school increases their likelihood of being abused. For many kids, being out of school means no physical activity. For many kids, being out of school means no learning. These consequences are dangerous too. And if you are sitting in your safe bubble thinking this isn’t so bad, you’re burying your head in the sand.

Of course these kids don't play club soccer, they can't afford it. Even high school sports cost to much. Please don't think club soccer is making a difference in the population you describe. Sure the very few, but for the vast vast vast majority of kids club soccer is nothing more than a dream.

For kids in poverty this shut down has been horrifically damaging.

This is a soccer forum, how would club soccer help solve the issue. By giving them a sport outlet? Kids in poverty cannot afford the DOC's 6 figure salaries !

I think the discussion is opening sports and schools back up. By shutting down I agree that the impact on disadvantaged kids is much, much larger than for people with wealth.

The three clubs I have worked with provide significant scholarships that allow hundreds and hundreds of disadvantaged kids to play. I have seen kids prosper under scholarship and get substantial soccer aid for college soccer.

The economy will be destroyed if you let the virus run rampant. There are no good options, so stop pretending you can get back to normal without controlling the virus.

You want something approaching normal like they have in other places around the world? Do what has to be done to stop the virus.

This is so obvious and we’re seeing it play out around the world. Can’t save the economy without getting the virus under control. Get the virus under control and keep it under control with testing & tracing to get back to “normal”. Duh.

It would seem the rest of world has this under control but us.

You might be right, but the economy is already been dealt a near fatal blow and if you don't open everything very soon it will be past the point of no return. The government can only print so much money.

Many people are of the opinion that the virus is not that big of a deal. Sure people have died, but how many of those people would've died from the regular flu? How many of the deaths reported are fraudulent?

None of the deaths, or cases have been fraudulent. The only thing fraudulent about this pandemic has been the response of the executive branch of the US Government. Spare me or anybody else your right wing conspiracy theories. It is no secret that wearing masks, socially distancing, and being smart about things, controls the spread. Look at the States with the worst numbers and highest cases, and please tell me what they all have in common? Amateur hour is over.

We need a placebo vaccine. Then we can just go back to normal. 99% of people that get this virus are just fine so as long as everyone feels safe we should be fine.

Who is the bozo up there that thinks there haven't been fraudulent Covid deaths? Of course there have been. Probably a lot. People have died of other causes and been tested post-mortem and been listed as Covid deaths. There is a huge financial incentive to do so for the cash-strapped hospitals.
