Title IX's trickle down to women's college soccer on campuses across the U.S. absolutely exceeds the interest level and participation numbers in the United States. Hundreds more colleges field women's soccer teams and hand out scholarships, compared to men's soccer that boasts hundreds of thousands more participants yet have hundreds less college teams that can offer scholarship aid. Which is directly related to one factor, title ix.

This explains why 18 girls on an average Oregon club get some token of aid to participate in college soccer(any level) compared to the same average 18 boys who play for same club boys team a handful of them might get crumbs for college aid if anything. This isn't anyone's point of view, it's a verifiable and documented fact. The concept of Title IX on the whole, is fine. Unfortunately how it's interpreted and executed for the activity of college Soccer in the states is fundamentally flawed and slanted in favor of girls/boys.

This gross disparity of aid in the activity of soccer has given rise at the jr high & senior high level of 'travel' & 'market' my girl for colleges circuit which amounts to a plethora of travel ridden meaningless matches. Which is driven by non-profit coaches who want to make a profit by promoting or hitching their wagon to a laughable mantra that their club club/teams get girls scholarships (when it's just simply a byproduct of title ix in action).

My friend these title ix handouts for girls soccer aren't going away soon they are actually growing year by year. Title IX should be loved by any girl who elects to participate in Soccer, the payouts for landing roster spots on college teams exceed any other american sporting activity based on the number of participants.

Due to title ix this activity women's soccer gives you the best odds of landing aid.

It's an anomaly or a quirk on the whole.

That's just the way it is, hate it or love it makes no difference.

Which club offers the best opportunity? The answer is determined by where the talent goes and that varies for whatever reason based on age group.
"The talent" doesn't go to any one place, and that's the problem which will never be solved. For example look at the 03 group. Thorns 03 girls just flew 750 miles to lose 9-0. I think it's painfully obvious that not only have they not captured "the talent" in the 03 age group, but they aren't even talented enough to be a premier Oregon team.

Meanwhile, Crossfire ECNL 03's have had a much higher success rate on the field and recruitment wise. You can hate on ECNL all you want but that's a fact. But - they have also not captured "the talent." They have some of it. Certainly more than Thorns. But hardly all of it.

Now look at OYSA. Like him or not, MJ has some of the talent in this birth year. So does Salmon Creek and Eugene.

MJ's team (I would say their name but I can't keep track of what club they are with this week), Salmon Creek and Eugene all have players that would be immediate impactful starters on Thorns and would go a long way towards helping them consolidate the talent in the state. But why on earth would a kid leave one of those three teams for Thorns? Little to no financial savings. Terrible record. Can't play high school. Plenty of anecdotal stories from former players about all the reasons they disliked Thorns. The team they are on (MJ, SC, and Eugene) are all successful enough. They are all getting girls connected with and committed to D1 schools. And the girls get to keep playing with their friends, playing HS soccer, playing other sports in some cases, and generally having a normal childhood. Why would anyone walk away from that for the dumpster fire that is Thorns?

I know not every Thorns team is as bad off as the 03's. But the fact remains that they have not and will never consolidate the talent in one age group. Their product isn't good enough to do that. And there will always be very talented kids from outlying areas who don't want to deal with that driving, or very talented kids who want to have a more normal high school experience with the option to play HS and do other sports. So their product - by virtue of what it is - can not and will not ever be THE program that captures even a simple majority of the talent in any one age group.

Your other questions - about which club develops best and which offers best opportunities - are a different story. Thorns doesn't develop anyone and that's an indisputable fact. They use their ODP platform to identify talent and encourage that talent to "move up" to Thorns. I suppose you could try to make the argument that players are "developed" in ODP. But that wasn't our experience and that's not the experience of anyone we knew who did it. The concensus was that the ODP coaching was average at best, and towards the end it was obviously intended to be an informercial for Thorns. So scratch Thorns off your list of "clubs" who develop (we'll leave the question of if Thorns is even a club for another day - hint, they're not).

FcP and CU - at least they have a true pathway to their ECNL programs. You can make a legitimate argument that they develop some players who end up on their ECNL teams. They also pull talent in from other teams so in that way they recruit just like Thorns do. But their clubs do contain a development component. How good is it? That's purely subjective.

Opportunities - opportunities for what? National team callups? That's Thorns all the way and US Soccer has made it glaringly obvious that non academy players won't get callups until they finish their youth soccer careers. Look at Katie Duong. Regular callups until the academy program launched. No callups the rest of her high school years. Now she's in college and not only did she start getting callups again, but she's starting for the u20 national team in their CONCACAF tournament run. Strange how being one year removed from ECNL suddenly made her a national team quality player again. SO...yes if you want national team callup opportunities Thorns is your obvious and only choice.

If by "opportunities" you mean college opportunities, CU is the clear winner there. Not only do they have more commits, consistently, but their commits actually play soccer (as opposed to the "Stanford commit" the Thorns continue to lie about). However, you can make a very valid argument that there are plenty of OYSA teams who create similar opportunities for their players. Salmon Creek's 00 team was loaded with future college players. Capital's 01 team has four D1 commits plus more committed to D2 and D3. Wa Timbers are boasting that this year's 02 team has the most number of commits in their club's history. And so on.

Bottom line - find the team that your kid enjoys and that works for your life. If you find that your kid is unhappy or not challenged or wants something different, look at more than win-loss records and do your homework. The grass is usually not greener.

You should call what this really is: Special scholarships for upper middle class white girls.

Again, title 9 gives women equal scholarships money for sports as men; no school athletic department gives more money to women than men. Your boys are just not good enough athletes to win this money or they play sports schools choose not to fund. Stop bitching...

Plenty of football scholarships for the taking. Loads more than girls soccer. Just have your boy play football.

The oddity or aberration of females getting so much more athletic financial aid and program funding compared to males in the acitvity of college soccer is a bizarre, & unintended symptom of title ix application.

Just so you know it's has no correlation to interest in
the activity, participation numbers nationwide or playing ability.

                        But, you already realized this.

Top pac 12 teams in competitive areas don’t take average girls (unless their parents pay big bribe money). The lower half of pac 12 is a mixed bag like most other d1 schools. Regardless, it takes some skill, luck & money to make any college soccer squad. Congratulations to any girl choosing and able to play soccer in college. More boys play football and they get a lot more fans at the football games but soccer is a really fun game too. Some girls want to play soccer for as long as they can before they get a real job.

Luckily, most female soccer players here are from wealthy families so they don’t even need any scholarship money, they just want to keep up their sports hobby for a few more years.

Consider having your biological boy identify as female and take the title ix handout dollars for average girls .

There would be more money for boys soccer if less was spent on the men playing football and basketball. Sorry chump.... boys college soccer isn’t going to get the money.

Title 9 simply states equal money between women and men (and boys). This isn’t bizarre symptom at all.
