I get annoyed at the "OYSA is rec" attitude from some ECNL boosterz around here. If you think that, you are a goddamn fool. If you're a college coach that thinks that, you're a goddamn lazy fool.
But if your dd likes it, and you can afford it, go for it. Just know that it has a high bling factor, and many of us are neither impressed not fooled.

What is the BS about it?
It cost money to play travel soccer because travel is not free. Where is the scam?
That is indeed more than a scam, it's unadulterated insanity.

There are probably some local ECNL teams that have age groups that are just not that competitive at the ECNL level and that some of those players really don't have really the ability to compete beyond HS.
The ECNL teams in the NW region for the most part are a few levels above the local OYSA. There are exceptions with various age groups at various clubs like Salmon Creek 00.
The cost with ECNL is specifically the travel to the showcases. Not really a scam if you already know up from the costs and the expectations. Buying a Audi is going to be more expensive than buying a Volkswagon but that does not mean that buying an Audi is a scam just because it is more than you are willing to pay.
You seem angry at people who are choosing to do ECNL and blaming the ECNL coaches as scammers. Not sure why you are so angry since it is not really your money that they are spending.
It is probably cheaper to get a bus pass and get to work than paying your car expenses. Do you have a car? Why not drive a 20 year old car that is fully depreciated rather than a car that is less than 10 years old? Are the car manufacturers scamming you in trying to sell you the comforts of a newer car.
It is also a fact of soccer that the ECNL showcases will have more coaches attending than anything that an OYSA team will play in. It is not a promise of a scholarship or that you will even be seen, but a fact on college coach attendance.

This about the travel cost for the US Club ever changing 'league' Not the showcases, this is exactly how fools like you get hoodwinked. Anyone in the local area can spend $8 bucks for gas and get the same games locally you get in your everchanging US Club 'league'. Sorry you didn't realize this simple fact.
If you are paying travel expenses to play in whatever name they slap on the division/league this year: mountain, pacific, northwest + friendlies with FC Portland or CU you are electing to blow money. That's like paying for the lease of an audi and they give you a used yugo instead. You are simply a brainwashed tool and think you are really driving an Audi and everyone witnesses you clunking along in the broken down Yugo.
Love it.

No wonder you travel, you've lost it.

The majority of those teams are better than the majority of who you would play against in OYSA. Again there are outliers, but as a whole, you and I both know this statement to be true.
No one is forcing anyone to do anything. Those facts are up front. And there will likely not be any college coaches at those league games. I don't think anyone is misleading anyone with this information. It is the price of admission to play in the showcases.
