Title IX has flipped your perception of reality and since there is aid available where it wouldn't be otherwise, you invest in travelling for giggles. Also you believe in playing HS Soccer as the holy grail.
No wonder you travel, you've lost it.
Title IX is about equality in collegiate sports. It is that simple. From there athletes earn what they get, travel or no travel.
D E V E L O P M E N T begins and ends with playing the same 10 local teams year after year because some anonymous jack@sses say travel is insanity. LOL!
My dds oysa team travelled plenty and probably cost more than Thorns academy and as much as Ecnl. Pay to play soccer is all the same. The oysa players that don’t travel extensively, don’t get committed. If an Oregon girl wants books to 30/50% tuition, she has to travel even with Title 9. Her team has a few commits but nothing special even with all the traveling. They do get tired of playing the exact same teams in OR and Wa. They’ve literally been playing against the exact same teams over and over again for years on end. So many red uniforms. I think that’s one reason she loves high school soccer: different colored uniforms and those same teams she’s played against a hundred times since she was 7, are mixed up a little! She loves playing soccer though so we let her have at it. Keeps her out of trouble!
I’m sure Ecnl & gda have their own downsides but it’s all crazy and all pretty much the same time and money consuming business. If gps ever breaks up, her team might finally win State and get to go to Idaho too! Would be nice since her hs is never beating Jesuit!
Travel soccer is fun but expensive, no matter the league. Mine loves it and we can afford it so it’s worth it. It’s over too soon. Enjoy it while you can!

Yes, agree 100%
Also, even if she is not pursuing college scholarship, it is a matter of what her team decides to do. The other choice is to leave the team which is easier done on paper than in real life with girls. Not only is she leaving her teammates, but she is most likely moving to lower quality soccer.
The costs for GDA and ECNL are in travel. There is no magic formula. If you play OYSA and you play in showcases, your travel will be higher as well.
With regards to development, it is a matter of coach and player quality. The GDA and ECNL label does not improve the quality if either if the teams do not draw quality players and coaches.
No matter what real data is available, you know the OYSA guy is already set in saying that ECNL is a scam. He has likely never been to an ECNL showcase event or playoffs and has already made up his mind.
The real data says spending thousands to travel and play clubs that are just like yourself, other neighborhood clubs. Is not only an obvious scam, it a waste of money. Even if title ix trickle down aid for girls college soccer makes the local club team bench warmer a recruit, due to nationwide lack of interest in the activity for girls.

I agree with this. There are good coaches all over and a lot of average-to-bad coaches. Don’t pick a program pick a team and coach.

Since actual coaches aren't interested in training girls in Oregon or SW Washington club soccer. This explains why the 'label' or 'acronym' is all that is peddelled. You have no option for coaches, they aren't interested in working with neighborhood girls, so you get what we have left over. It's pretty sad.

Other than troll negative comments about Oregon coaches, clubs, and players, why are you on Talking Soccer? Just curious.

Who is an "actual coach", and what do you mean by that term? Someone who is employable (as a head coach) by a NWSL club or D1 school? Any "actual coaches" at any of the local youth clubs?

True that players can get committed from any league. I even know of some paying private professional recruiters to give them an edge. If the family has the means, the girl will find a spot. Sometimes it’s a very good spot.

We're taking on the Lori Laughlin path. My daughter is going to USC on a football scholarship.
