    Social media dishonesty by clubs

Curious if it bothers anyone besides me to see clubs post deceptive or outright false information on their social media platforms, such as:

Thorns academy claiming a Stanford commit when she isn’t playing soccer in college.
Oregon United posting about a team making state cup finals when the team was actually knocked out in pool play.
FC Portland claiming their ECNL team won a tournament when in reality they lost in finals.
Oregon United posting about a younger team winning an older bracket in a tournament but neglecting to mention it was a bronze bracket.

I know social media directors and DOC’s are tasked with hyping up their clubs. But lies like this are such a bad look for those who notice. Maybe that’s not many people and maybe that’s what the lying liars are counting on. But for those of us paying attention it looks terrible.

I like to think its more of a factor of accidently posting something that isn't true. Perhaps someone texted something to the person who updated it incorrect or just a mistake. If it happens to be an ongoing thing, then at that point, its just kind of sad.

If it was an honest mistake the club’s could easily correct it. In at least two of the OP’s examples the false posts are still on social media. You are a bit gullible if you think these are honest mistakes.

        Oufc

I think OUFC should set the example and redo the news report.

Actually this goes back to the deceptive practices of thorns. From day one they’ve been falsely and dishonestly claiming credit for commits made with other teams. Look for them to do it this year now that the CU/future Notre Dame keeper moved to thorns. Apparently for them it’s a small step to actually flagrantly lying and claiming a Stanford commit.

Thorns are supposed to be the “next level” of the pyramid. They sold their program as being better and above the regular club level in Oregon. If they can lie- for years - with no consequences, what is the motivation for clubs like FCP and Oregon United to be honest?

Don't care about the team that says they won a tournament "even if it's only the Bronze bracket." That's still a win. It's ok to say they "won XYZ Cup."

The other stuff. Maybe a mistake, maybe a misunderstanding.

At the same time it's stiff competition. Ford vs. Chevy - whatever you can do to keep the players, and their parents to keep cutting the checks. And to keep some of of the checks coming you have to shows results for what you are selling.

Maybe a marketing tool for the competitor is to showcase the integrity of their club.

I’ll grant you the lame Thorns attempt to claim a Stanford commit. Makes Thorns look worse and more desperate than they really are so backfires.

All clubs try to claim the recruit even if they were only there a year. Also lame. Rule should be, first club recognized for the commit should be the one they were with when they verbally committed, then youth club they grew up with, then the last club last. Give everyone credit. Everyone should know it’s really none of the clubs and 95% the player and their family that got them there.

As far as tourneys, who cares but the honorable thing to do is say “Won Silver Division”, “Won Premier”. It would be similar to saying you won State Cup when you really won Presidents or Founders Cup... Can’t we all be proud of any of the accomplishments?

Paying to play is the only accomplishment. Yes, you are proud.

To be fair, if people are that tied into clubs social media. then they are crazy parents, who are going to far anyways. If this affects any of them, then those are the parents you don't want on your team anyways.

What about tshirts and sweatshirts from tourneys, should the players have to put “Super Soccer Cup 2019 - lost all our games in bronze and all I got was this 50$ tshirt”? Who cares, let them wear the shirts like they were in it to win it. No one cares so let the kids be happy.

Getting upset by a clubs social media or website means you're too involved. Clearly the OP and maybe others are angry with one club that isn't even theirs. More likely it's owners of a competing club. Most parents will probably only "like" their kid's club ti supportthe club, maybeget some communication. They don't care what happens at other clubs or what is true vs false.

As for commitment claims it is always wherever the player played their senior year, no matter if it even just a few months. We all know that last club isn't necessarily who developed the player but it is what it is. The majority of a club's commits will be more legit. Again, if you're getting wrapped up in it I'd question your involvement
