Kids like playing HS soccer. For all of you who say it is just "screwing around", kids like it. But, of course, what does it matter whether the kids like it or not?

My daughter is generally considered one of the better players at her age level and has played on a very successful club team. She goes to high school soccer and talks about how bad some of soccer is. However, she has a great time and has some very deep friendships from high school sports. They have a lot of fun. She loves it.

No HS aged club involvent at a premier level
All JV and JV2 squad members are rec.
Nearly all 5A squads and below schools are rec players.
Some competitive club players do mix in for sure but they are a small minority and growinig smaller when the top slice is the DA and dont. play Hs.

Having to watch jv or jv 2 is rough especially on the girls side.
You make a valid point.

NFHS participation numbers indicate 6500 boys play HS Soccer in Oregon.
OYSA fields close to 100 boys teams from u16 to u19 in it's 2018 Winter League U15 is a mishmash of 8th & 9th Graders. So roughly 1800 to 2000 boys plays 'competitive' club HS aged soccer. (u15-19)
Which supports the percentage o of 'rec' players actually playing HS around 70%+ or you could also classify them as those that don't play competitive soccer, instead of rec.
The percentage of HS 'rec' girls players is probably higher due to lower interest level and participation numbers than boys.
