At least the DA is working with the local clubs and will let them clubs know which players have been selected asap so the clubs can back fill their rosters after (DA) tryouts. Clubs got nervous and thougth having tryouts before the DA was a good move but it backfired on them in the end since the DA is subsidized. Live and learn.
Scheduling tryouts before the Thorns was never the goal. Timbers/Thorns just shouldn't be dictating tryout dates to clubs.

Extensive travel missing school.
Ban on high school sports.
Missing high school extracurricular activities.
Nobody will come watch.
Sounds like fun

CU and FCP had tryouts at the exact same weeks as last year. You may not like what CU and FCP are doing in terms of their ECNL programs, but they aren't running scared. They are doing the same things they've always done.

You really think if the Thorns takes off it won't be the same thing? $2k is more than most local clubs, outside ECNL.

Girls that are selected for the Thorns DA teams pay 2k and get more travel and exposure than CU & FC P combined.
Local clubs pay around 2k and only play in Oregon.+ Possible travel tournaments that add expense of course.
Gee which program offers the most benefit and value? Hmmmm. Let's crunch all these difficult figures.

Girls that tryout for Thornz Asylum (all who try make it) pay 2K to play rec ball and get many miles of travel in the Thornz panel van
Players from ECNL make up 85%+ of all D1 freshman. Players from Thornz Academy make up 0% of all college freshman at all levels.
Gee which program offers the most benefit and value? Hmmmm. Pretty easy calculation for all but the most ignorant lemming cavemen.
