Bingo. Especially if you have a high schooler, sticking with Ecnl for now is the way to go. Watch the better clubs, better players & savvy parents in NorCal. Switch to GDA when & if they do. Stupid to switch from a proven program to an unproven program that many top clubs won't even join yet.

If GDA does become the most elite pathway in 2-3 years time, great. Switch then if you are elite enough. Ecnl will still be a great college path for the multisport athlete, the elite soccer athlete that lives far away from GDA, the super academic soccer player, and many other great but not "National team great" players. Due to title 9, way more college spots to fill than GDA can fill. Or just play club. Bottom line is, GDA & Ecnl will get you more exposure but the player is still the same player and will end up at the same level of college play regardless of pathway.

I can't imagine kids wanting to give up their high school experience to train minimum four days a week, travel constantly, miss school events.

It's being going on for 10 years with the Boys DA and those that are special enough for the DA level of play have no regrets nearly all of the boys who don't make the pros get chosen for college instead. The big plus for so many is it's paid for by the MLS and the bigger clubs.

All for an off chance of going pro. Making a very low salary. Give up your life. No thanks.

Not much interest in the massive commitment of GDA.

Nearly all kids that play at the (top tier) DA level just have hopes of playing in College a few will end up being pros, but not many for sure. Playing at the (top tier) DA level has been the #1 choice of college coaches for recruitment, it's a great vehicle for exposure and the MLS covers all the costs,it's succinctly a no brainer for those that want to go on to college. It's not for everybody, especially those not wanting to be a pro or play in college, it wouldn't be a fit, that's why we have local clubs and HS play for the recreational minded participants.

We are well positioned in Oregon and lucky to have a Pro club fund their USDA for boys and girls. In addition we have lots of clubs willing to work with the kids not built for that level.

              It's a win-win.

Lots of travel away from home.

                Missing school.

                Banned from high school sports.

                Miss high school events.

24 games in ten months, 5 trips away from home ( double header weekends).

Missing school (rarely-as much as ECNL or less).

Miss high school events ( just as much as ECNL) .
You ECNL DOCs are sure trying hard to spin this. Maybe you should have come to the parent night to get correct information? I fixed the above for you .

19 of the top 25 ECNL clubs will be placing their top team in GDA. They will also be staying in ECNL for their B teams. The Other 6 will be placing there A team in ECNL

Thorns do not even have a A, B, C or D team. Where do you put them?

Also the clubs that have both GDA and ECNL, the kids will have a choice where they play. My guess is the younger ones will do GDA and the older kids ECNL. GDA will be the B team in the older age groups for a majority of the dual clubs.

Parents with younger kids will drink any new Kool-Aid being offered. The truth is, Portland needs one top of the pyramid club and leave the rest of the clubs alone. Those that perform and produce will prosper, others will die off. Just the way it is.

Did GDA say at the info night that girls will be allowed to play other HS sports like basketball and track? Will girls be allowed to miss GDA trainings/games in order to play basketball games and run in track/xc meets? Will girls be allowed to miss GDA trainings to attend HS basketball/track/tennis trainings?

If a club is going to subsidize you, they will be calling the shots on what you can do outside of club soccer. Believe me if GDA is forking over the majority of fees, you will do as they say. The truth is they deserve to if that is the case.

Idaho parent here but how far apart are the two ECNL clubs and GDA from each other, practice field wise? Just trying to get a perspective.
