It's always been that, but since the USDA is now the top tier and exclusive to the best, it just shines a light on the reality of being a club not selected for the DA.

The u14 year is the one where half the team is in 8th grade and half is in 9th playing HS in the fall (because ECNL doesn't require that you give up everything fun in your life to chase a pipe dream). So the 8th grade u14 players will play in OYSA in the fall and then when the 9th graders join them they will start the ECNL season. No breaking news here.
Not true. U14 is primarily 8th graders and 7th graders born in the Fall. High School has nothing to do with it.

My bad. The age group change still has my brain confused. But my original point stands. It will be a non high school team and there are no ECNL games in the fall. So why not do OYSA? It's no different than what the thorns academy did this past year. They will start in the ECNL league when ECNL starts in January.

and playing OYSA instead of going off to Arizona, Canada or California to play in Applefest tournaments in the fall is where families save $2000 on overall $ out of the family wallet.

So what you are saying is that Crossfire realizes that it is stupid and expensive to travel the planet playing varied competition when they could stay closer to home, focus on training, and play a few showcases and out of state games. Hmmm. Now just gotta get some coaches that are more than used car salesmen with c licenses.

Or just play in OYSA and then do meaningful tournaments like Surf Cup, Disney, Dallas Cup...etc.
Save the ECNL baloney for 9th grade.

No shame in that. If your paying that much $$ a year and barely getting play time MOVE ON!

Illegal how? ECNL clubs can hold tryouts whenever they want, as often as they want.

Since it's not a GDA program, ECNL clubs can choose appropriate competition for their teams outside of league events, unlike the GDA clubs that are stuck with rec-level events all year long.
