Now that Thorns has a NorCal GDA base, there really is no need to have one in OR. Partnering with powerful DeAnza Force was a major coup.

I doubt this is true but if it is look for those families to suddenly become the biggest ECNL fans ever. You've heard the expression burning bridges? Those bridges had a flame thrower taken to them with academy teams playing OYSA this year.

True. Thorns have realized that they can't attract the top players and GDA is just too expensive to be flying rec players all over the place to get completely throttled, especially when they won't be allowed to play down like the last couple of years. Thorns have also changed their focus to their collaboration with De Anza and their California Thorns GDA program which actually has some promise. The worst coach at De Anza is light years better than the best coach in Thorns Academy.

Isn't Westside running it next year? Not sure who is going to fund the required scholarships. Doubt it will be Westside. GDA will be more expensive than ECNL by a long ways.

I've heard that as well, but separately heard that Timbers have absolutely no plan for Portland market and that they are trying to poach ECNL coaches to run it.
