Girls DA Scrambling for Teams in Nor Cal

After a couple of clubs pulled out of DA in Nor Cal, De Anza looked to drop their spot as well.

Looks like Thorns are going to take their spot. Will be interesting to see.

Thorns have their own spot already.

NorCal might have the highest % of highly educated soccer parents.

Yeah, the top clubs in NorCal are choosing ECNL over GDA. Good for the Thorns, though, as they'll get to play teams more at their level, like in OYSA 3rd division.

So are they adding a 2nd spot in California? The press release coming out tomorrow is kind of confusing.

No, the press release is exactly like every other piece of information released about GDA thus far. Vaguely and poorly worded, designed to be open to interpretation by gullible consumers who desperately want to believe they didn't throw away their kid's future on snake oil.

Make no mistake.. if your kid wants to play outside of the pyramid of US Soccer.. stick with boutique elite clubs and if your kids are good enough and these clubs attend the right tournaments and showcases your child can contend equally in the college application process. If you can afford ECNL or EPNL you can go that path but scouts already have been notified to look elsewhere for classes graduating 2020 and beyond because the level of play has already begun to decline, espescially in teams from the PAC NW. GDA will new but there is a lot of excitement at higher levels to see what kinds of players this will bring as the ECNL model has been a giant turn off to many elite players.

Two ECNL clubs in CT said no thanks to GDA and are sticking with what works for them and their players - good soccer and a path to good college soccer. A state that small won't have many truly elite players that are NT or top D1 potential, but plenty who will do well at the abundant number of high quality academic schools on the East Coast. The club they gave GDA to will struggle to attract players - it's not a strong club (NPL now but they already have an ok BDA program) and the no high school rule is a deal breaker for many players. I suspect this scenario is playing out elsewhere. Now that there's clarity on the structure, competition, travel, costs, and most importantly player interest (or lack thereof) plenty of clubs are having 2nd thoughts. Even if GDA becomes the top league, it won't be a clear winner and things will vary at the local level. It's going to be a bumpy ride.

Looks like it's on the verge of collapse:

What's interesting and bizarre is the fact the parent club of the Crossfire Utd contingent of girls in LOSC/THUSC (Crossfire Premier (n Washington has jumped to the GDA.)
                      Any idea why?

Several on your list are already cancelled. Like WNY Flash Academy, for instance. NWSL team moved to the Carolinas.

Crossfire Premier WA needed a place for it's "B" teams to play because they are too good for RCL / FWRL so they will be putting them in GDA. Same story for Seattle United Reign Academy. And now that Thorns have to field 4 teams instead of 2, the already low quality of the Thorns teams will only plummet lower...

Actually Reign is going to play "A" team in GDA. They are looking at GDA as the pipeline for the more serious year round players.

They are in the same position as Thorns Academy. They lose all their best players to Crossfire and WPFC, and that's not changing. Reign can go ahead and put their "A" teams in GDA - won't be any different than "B" teams from ECNL clubs.

There have now been a number of clubs that were accepted to Girls DA that have publicly declined in North Cal, Midwest, and East Coast.

Not one existing ECNL club has said it is dropping ECNL to join Girls DA - not one.

That may change this Spring if ECNL gives clubs an ultimatum - they cannot do both ECNL and GDA unless they send 4 of 5 teams to ECNL playoffs.
