If we are going to declaring teams unfit for State Cup--I'd add PCU, possibly RVT, and NEU to the list. Even Bend and ETFC are a notch below the other top ten seeds. But since it's essentially an open tournament, where do you draw the line? Should teams that are sorted into non-Premier in the Fall be banned (even if, like BSC, they demonstrate they were flighted incorrectly)? Should playing in President's or Founders Cup make you ineligible for State Cup--no team can do more than one Cup event, so choose wisely?

Copa TS would have gotten splattered in State Cup; unlike Samba, they aren't talented enough to benefit from the experience. You learn something when you lose by 4-5 goals, you learn nothing when you lose by 10-12. But I'll ask back at you--why didn't FC Portland sign up White? They're a good team, were the Pres Cup runners up, and at least would have been competitive with the bottom half of the tournament. That would get the pool to 20 teams, and a balanced bracket.

Now--if you want to complain that the seeding algorithm is sometimes unfair to top seeds--I won't argue with that (only with the notion that this is done to screw with FC--the rules have been in place for a long time, and weren't changed to harm any particular team). The big reason a "short" group is unfair is not because of the number of games is different (whether that is an advantage or a disadvantage depends on the number of teams who advance). The main problem with a short group is they are generally stronger on average, as there's one less bottom-feeder for the top teams to rack up an easy three points on. If they are going to use short groups, then a good argument could have been made that Group E should have been the short group (and I know the FC crowd would love seeing Copa matched with BSC rather than SSC in group play) and not Group A--the lowest top seed should have to endure the disadvantage of a relatively stronger pool.

But this is a process issue that has been around for a long time.
Not an fc rant just a perspective. Those 4 teams are probably at a -35 or -40 goal differential at this point without looking at the actual results. What do you learn from that other than you do not belong. Westside enjoyed it though I am sure at fc and wa Timbers expenses once they got 2 of them in their pool. If there were any integrity to start with there would have been the tough conversations with those from those clubs to let them that presidents is where they belong and not allow them or others into the state cup. It might actually give the state cup some relevance..

Why are you focusing on the wrong thing? It's not an fc problem (get over the fact you can't beat them)it's a systemic problem that the Timbers alliance continues to have. Pick the age level or gender and you are involved in something questionable or absolutely crooked.

Only reason BSC can be considered flighted incorrect is because their 05's masqueraded as DA level players in the fall which is why their DA performed horribly and their 04and 05 premier teams fared as bad. Why they have DA is beyond those in the know.

Funny... On the girls threads, I here all sorts of claims that getting schooled in ECNL play is good for the development of FC's girls.... but that seems to not apply to 05 boys.

Westside always puts Samba teams in State Cup, unless they are really bad. It's been the plan for the entire season. Boys benefit from the higher speed of play, just like your girls teams do when they travel to get flattened by Crossfire Premier.

State Cup is an open tournament. You should let the coach of a given team decide if they belong or not.

Wrong! I, arm chair coach with no playing or coaching experience, decide! No soup for you!

BSC wins group Email with this result. Bend is still alive. Eagles are eliminated.

                              Why pick on Samba?

I feel bad for WA. They are a really good team and can hang with the best. Their talent level is higher than whoever wins the wild cards.
