    I was at both games.

PacNW smacked them around 4-0. It should’ve been 9 or 10.
The other game was a bit tighter but not even close.

Both Oregon teams style of play had to be direct to survive because the players haven’t been taught how to play correctly at that speed of play.

Still though, kudos to them for testing themselves but they are far from the Seattle teams and the Southern cal teams are the equivalent distance as Pluto.

20 years of State Cup results and League results indicate otherwise. Who cares about facts. You live in a tiny 05 bubble, outlier perspective is simply that. Next.

We signed up for U15, hoping that OPFC might be there. While Oswego Cup is indeed a "silver level tourney" (everything around here is to be honest), the U16 gold field was locally quite strong, featuring the defending state champs, the prior year's runner-up, and a quarterfinalist from the past season (who was in the DA the season prior and didn't do state cup).

OPFC's b team played the silver bracket at Oswego--good for them, but any premier-level 05 team would clobber in that bracket.

And ML and RF got subbed out just like anyone else--everyone who came got to play.

          Dear Westside,

OPFC 05's A team is playing at Mt Hood Challenge. While both LOSC and WUFC are feeders to OPFC, the WUFC coaches tend to run things on the boy's side. You rarely see an OPFC boy's team at Nike Cup, especially with Mt. Hood, which is a WUFC tourney, on the next weekend. If you want a summer match up with OPFC next year, sign up for Mt. Hood instead. Lord knows this thread could use some more flame wars between the parents of these two teams.

How about 04 and 03? I am not worried about what happened 15 years ago (these kids were not even born) or on the girls side it’s irrelevant to this group

What am I missing? How is there even a beef with Westside and OPFC. Hasn't OPFC/Crossfire owned Westside since U12? I mean, I guess Westside may have a beef, but why would OPFC?

04 were finalists last spring. That said, they probably won't be this year, after BM's blatant bribery decimated the team. (Apparently some of the kids who left for UPDX after being promised favorable ODP treatment are now on the UPDX B team--shaking my head about that. Did they not notice that BM already had a roster full of Timbers castoffs?). The two years before that they were in DA.

03 were semifinalists two years ago... and OYSA seems to have taken this past year's results down. GPS won this past season at 03, will be interesting to see what happens next. Prior to the age year split, many of the current 03s won State Cup as the 02s.

WT has been dominant over the years at 02 and older, but the 02s are mostly seniors this year, and getting close to aging out of youth soccer.

So why the relative lack of results after 03? A couple of theories:

                  1) The Timbers Academy hasn't helped from the point of view of the club getting wins. WT doesn't mind, and generally encourages kids to go to the Timbers if they can (part of the deal of being in the Alliance is you cooperate with the Timbers in their scouting efforts), but quite a few players have gone over. This is true of other clubs as well; though it should be noted that the reigning 05 DA champ is a club that DOESN'T typically send kids to the academy, for whatever reason.

                  2) The emergence of clubs like ADF, which got its start in large part by recruiting kids from WT that had been referred to them for personal training, and try to compete with WT as a premier destination club. ADF doesn't compete at older age groups (currently) but has been a thorn in the side at the middle-school ages. OTOH, they royally p***ed off their 07 parent group this past spring, and now have competition in their business model from SCA. (I still would like to know why OYSA is OK with ADF but not with SCA).

                  3) One particular coach, while technically quite good at teaching the game, also manages to annoy parents like crazy. (Cony has noticed, finally, which is one reason John Bain is now coaching the 08s. That age group has so far resisted the wide-scale poaching that impacted the 05s, 06s, and 07s--and even has poached a few from FC recently, including one very talented player who FC had poached the year prior).

                  4) As mentioned above, the move of much of the 04 team to UPDX. This is a concern going forward for the club, as opposed to something that has impacted past results, but I doubt the WT 04s will be in the State Cup finals this year. I suspect that some of those players might end up coming back, once they figure out that they got played, but certainly not all of them.

Bribery? Oh nellie, the Westside crybabies are back making s_h_i_t up again, with the "apparently" qualifier.

Not going to help you reclaim past glory, but heh, whatever makes you feel better.

                    signed,

usually more empathetic, but Westside as a victim is some sorry s_h_i_t

I’d like to think there is more respect at this point then animosity. Frankly my son is simply tired at this point of playing the same teams over and over. Summer tourneys at least offer a little hope a new team might be faces.

"Apparently" refers to reports of ex-Copa players being sent to UPDX's B team. If so, that might be a hard lesson for those kids to learn.

The reason he is no longer the 04 ODP coach have been well-established. Hope getting past PCU into the State Cup final proves to be worth it for them.

Oh well, it is what it is. BM is by all reports a good coach--you might think he might try and prove it by developing his own players, though.

The 04 ODP story is 100 false.

Have respect for westside, but the 20+ years of spinning crap about other clubs = “well established”.

04 UPDX coach is also a 04 ODP coach who picked his own players for the pool team in regional camp. He has been doing this for years when others were better.
Pretty freaking sad if you ask me.

FWIW, ADF founder played for Westside and then became an AC/ trainer before starting his own club. He continues to have a good relationship with WT people who've known him all of these years.
