She is paid the same base salary as all the players plus the same per game fees and the same roster bonuses. The men's u20 coach makes more in most of the last 5 years and no one even knows his name.

Incidentally, since January 2012 Solo's record is 78-6-15. Her GAA is under 5. She was on the gold medal team in 2012 and the winning World Cup team in 2015. Fun note: in 2013 she appeared on a list of the 10 highest paid women players - her pay - $65,000

You don't have to like her. It sounds like she was not very like able when drinking. It also sounds like she has stopped drinking. But, that won't change a type a competitive personality. Those folks usually are not very likable, but often are very successful.

Fun fact. Other players contribute to that win/loss record and fact it, the WNT doesn't often have very tough competition. I've seen multiple high level games where she had three shots on her all game, all easily stopped. You can't go just by her record because that doesn't tell the full story of her skills. Is she the best? Maybe. Do we have to keep "the best" in the net when 1) that best is a wreck and she has lost support of her teammates and 2) maybe 2nd best will be pretty close to that?

That argument should nothing to do with what happened. Players that aren't good enough fade away. You don't gin up excuses to fire them. It's clear that there are a lot people who don't like her, but unidentified transgressions don't cut it. US Soccer decided not to sanction her for the drunken family brawl, and already sanctioned her for the drunken team van incident. Now they want a do over because Hope said something impolitic? It will be an easy case for the union to win. It doesn't help women's sports either when marketing and PR is placed ahead of sport.

You don't gin up some ridiculous reason to fire her after 17 years of soccer service. If Alex Morgan loses her looks, are they going to fire her & end her career for jay-walking? Be outraged all you want if it makes you feel better. Fact is Solo's been a train wreck for a long time and US Soccer finally had enough. They don't need her anymore (never did really) and it was her behavior, not anyone else's, that got her canned.

True but sorry, no one wants to watch women's soccer unless the girls are pretty & nice. Even then, it's almost no one. Male athletes need to be tough & competitive. It's fine if they say impolite things. Double standard but reality. Just look to the sexist Olympics coverage.

I'm not worried about mine. She exhibits excellent sportsmanship and academics. Despite our modest income she's not white trash and won't worry about sports to make her famous. Solo gives women a bad name - she has tarnished her on field achievements with her off field stupidity

That's nonsense. She's tarnished her reputation with her poor choices, but her on field accomplishments speak for themselves. OJ is despicable, he's still one of the greatest running backs ever.
