Huge revenue ever since they took over running the OYSA league and ODP/RTC. HUGE!
I'm the OP and its seems you bring up an argument I've heard before. I just don't know enough to conclude there is that much revenue from youth soccer for a professional team. I for one would Be curious about the financial information. If true, it would certainly raise some questions. Any info would be appreciated.

      1.35 million running leagues
800k running state and president's cup

      I do not know

      on odp and camps.
on youth clubs selling ticket packaged.
what cut they get from sell of alliance uniforms, or if alliance clubs pay them directly.
Idaho deals (would guess not quite as big as Oregon)
      thorns academy

      It adds up.

How is running youth teams a revenue source for pro MLS teams? It's a cash drain for them - they have to allocate coaching and other resources, pay for travel and they don't charge players anything.

Does it sell some extra tickets to half filled stadiums and some extra merchandise? Sure but probably not that much. Many also run camps and clinics, which brings in cash to offset DA costs. But that's about it. They don't benefit from home grown players financially because of youth labor laws. It isn't Europe and never will be.

"RICHMOND, VA (August 3, 2016) – The Elite Clubs National League is excited to announce that Northern California powerhouse Davis Legacy will be joining the ECNL beginning in the 2017-2018 ECNL Season as a new member club. The ECNL will be the only national league in which the club will compete, and the focal point of its competitive efforts."

GDA is now down to 52 clubs, losing 1 top club even before the ink is dry on their latest announcement...
And there will be more clubs doing the same thing. Got accepted into the GDA without any intent of actually joining. Just using it as a bargaining chip to get accepted into the league they really want to be in - the top league in the nation - ECNL.

I'm sure many clubs applied as a back up and were waiting to see how this all plays out. As it doesn't really start for another year there's time for others to back out. Unless, of course, they signed a binding contract of some kind but with Davis bailing out it seems like there may not have been.

Looks like the ECNL posters have given up. They must have concluded that resistance was futile and that indeed, ECNL is dead.

Does ECNL wait until high school soccer is over before starting up? What about current Thorns Academy? What will GDA yearly schedule look like?

ECNL teams practice weekly during high school season. Thorns has lovely foam fingers for the girls.

Current Thorns don't do anything from April to November. GDA will be 4 trainings per week from September to June with no more than one game per week.

And at that, it's DOA. Too bad ECNL is now posting the composite records for the ECNL teams on the member team page. That won't be pretty for PDX. Good thing that, for now anyway, goal differential isn't on there.

ECNL girls have fingers but they are much more sturdy than foam. Not sure what they do with them. Mom, dad, you might want to keep an eye out.

So once Academy starts no High School soccer for DA girls? That is not ok..

Isn't Thorns Academy practicing 2 or 3 times a week most of the summer?

It's gradual. By 2022 DA players will not be allowed to play HS Soccer
