ODP & RTC Tryout Registration is NOW OPEN!

Dear Oregon and Washington Soccer Families,

We hope everybody is healthy and well and enjoying the summer. The Timbers and Thorns Regional Training Center (RTC) and Olympic Development Program (ODP) tryout dates are just around the corner and tryout registration is open now at www.timbers.com under the Youth/Regional Training Center tab. Below is a brief description on both programs.

Timbers and Thorns RTC Program (For players born in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006) First off, the best explanation on what the Regional Training Center program is and offers, who coaches and what the schedule looks like is available by clicking on this link which takes you to the RTC Information Guide: http://portland-mp7static.mlsdigital...nformation.pdf. Second, the Timbers and Thorns RTC program in 2016/17 is for players born in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. The RTC program is the Timbers and Thorns pre-academy program, required for all players who would like to be a part of the Timbers and Thorns ODP program. The RTC program is regionalized in seven parts of the state: Portland East, Portland West, Vancouver, Salem, Bend, Eugene and Medford. To accommodate more player and cast a wider net around the state, each location holds their own tryouts, has their own coaching staff we hire and is provided the same curriculum from our Timbers and Thorns Academy programs.

2004 DA Players/Eligible for RTC and ODP
The Timbers would like to remind all 2004 players who will tryout or are playing with the new 2004 DA academy with your club, that US Soccer has given the full-go to you to participate in the RTC and ODP program with the Timbers. Some clubs and coaches have told players the opposite and have referred players to the US Soccer website that does state ODP is off-limits. But the Timbers met with US Soccer and all the DA clubs earlier this year and US Soccer said our program (RTC and ODP) is very much okay for DA players to participate in. If you have additional questions about this, please email Mike Smith at msmith@timbers.com.

    RTC Tryouts
In order to participate in the RTC program, players must tryout in their regional training center location during the month of August. RTC tryouts for each region will always take place in mid to late August with most tryout dates confirmed and posted on the Timbers website by clicking on this link and finding either boys or girls tryout schedule:http://www.timbers.com/youth/regional-training-centers. Tryouts take place in the evening, usually on weekdays, and they span over at least a two-week stretch to accommodate families who are on vacation or have conflicts. We offer three to four tryout dates for each region and players should try and attend all three tryouts. If you can’t attend all three tryout dates, 1-2 are still okay to attend. If you need to miss all three sessions, contact me via email for details on what your next step is.

How to Register for RTC Tryouts
Again, players should tryout in the RTC location closest to you. Players are only allowed to tryout in one location as well. But registration is open now by clicking on this link: http://registration.timbers.com/home.php. Once you register for tryouts, you will receive a confirmation email with details on the tryout. Coaching staffs and updated tryout dates will be announced as they are confirmed on the Regional Training Center page located at www.timbers.com under the Youth/RTC section.

ODP Tryouts (2000, 2001 and 2002 Born Players)
For players born in 2000, 2001 and 2002, as a reminder, the Timbers and Thorns would like to announce the ODP Tryout Dates for Boys and Girls located here:
http://www.timbers.com/youth/olympic...opment-program toward the middle of the page. Tryout dates will take place August 13th and 14th in Salem, Oregon. The Timbers and Thorns nationally recognized program is the pathway to the Timbers and Thorns Academy Programs and with the Thorns just receiving a bid for the new US Developmental Academy on the girls side for 2017/18, the ODP program will be the pathway to this new program.

How to Register for ODP Tryouts
First off, you must be born in 2000, 2001 or 2002 in order to tryout for ODP in August. All older players are ineligible at this point and all younger players must tryout with RTC first. Second, in order to register for ODP tryouts, click on this link and find the ODP tryout section for your age group: http://registration.timbers.com/home.php. Once you register, you will receive a confirmation email for tryouts.

As a reminder, more than 90 percent of players who play in our Timbers and Thorns Academy programs have come from the RTC and ODP programs. This remains the pathway to academy play here in Oregon and we encourage all players, any skill-set, to tryout for these programs. You will no doubt walk away a better player.

We look forward to seeing you in August at tryouts.

In other words, "time to cough up some more money, Timbers need to pay some salaries".

Last year odp was horrible. Coach couldn't care less. No learning. No getting better. I assumed Odp was done.

What a waste of time and money.

No good coaches want to have anything to do with odp. It's not valuable anymore.

We had skipped it the last couple years, as we were with an OPL club and all the better players were skipping it, it might at least be interesting now with the DA attached to it to see if there are higher caliber players.

Used to be good. Not anymore. Complete waste of time. Girls on the team this year were not happy.

Now they have to beg to get coaches to be involved so they wind up with whoever they can get.

You'd be way better off spending the money on private training with a group of your teammates with a skilled trainer. RTC is a not a good option at all.
