The work around is they will work around that player and she won't be on the roster

You can't participate in DA as long as you are doing HS soccer so that's a long break.

the work around is like in boys da is prep school waiver.
if it is a requirement to do a high school sport or if it is part of the scholarship to the school,
a player can leave da for that season and come back later.
of course, often at very exclusive and expensive private skools.
money talks bs walks, right daddy$$$?

That is how it works, and even then some clubs don't give any waivers. It causes issues in 1) other players who give up HS don't like that some kids get exceptions
          2) players who work hard during the HS season get bumped when HS players return (also not helping with team spirit)
          3) rosters aren't maximized and team performance can suffer, hence coaches don't like it

The only work arounds are that

            a) prep school waivers can possibly be granted (up to club discretion)
            b) the no HS rule doesn't take effect for a few years. However, the wording also said clubs are allowed to make their own decisions on the no HS rule so chances are most clubs won't allow it. The DA schedule is ten months. If a team loses 5+ good players to HS then the team is weaker (wins still matter even in a "development" program).

So, basically, no work arounds. USSF doesn't want kids playing HS soccer or any other sport.

Yes. They have to be 2002 or older and can't train or play with the GDA team during HS season (missing about 30-40% of the GDA season). However, the GDA team is obligated to field a competitive team for all games and will thus not allow their best players to play HS soccer. Pine riders will get the OK to play HS soccer as that will actually allow for better training and more PT for the top players.

The HS rule takes effect next fall. If you're not in HS in the fall of 2016 you can NOT play HS soccer and do the GDA at the same time.

Because it isn't. That yahoo keeps upping the amount - he'll have it up to $100grand by November

No it doesn't - it's right on the GDA application

"With the permission of their Academy club, the program will initially allow players that have begun high school in 2017-18 or prior to the start of the Girls’ Development Academy, to complete the remainder of their high school career if they so choose. If a player chooses to play high school soccer she will not be allowed to play with a Girls’ Development Academy club during that portion of the Academy’s 10-month season. U.S. Soccer expects that clubs manage a player’s desire to participate in high school soccer on a case by case basis based on what’s best for the development of that player.

Beginning with the 2021-22 season, participation in high school soccer will not be permitted."

So basically it's "allowed" until 2021 but in reality it won't be allowed by the clubs themselves.

I foresee the opposite happening (as it does currently with boys and prep school waivers) - they let the top players do whatever they want. Bubble players are expected to make all the sacrifices, then get bumped off the field with the pre school kids return.

Might want to read that again. HS is only allowed for those that have started HS before the 2017-18 GDA season. Those who have started will be allowed to continue, at the discretion of their club, but can't participate in GDA training and games during the HS season (about 30-40% of the GDA season). Also, the GDA requires all clubs to field "competitive" teams for all games. You really think the Thorns Academy can let their best players go play HS soccer and still be "competitive"? Hardly. They won't be "competitive" with their best players.

It appears the Portland Thorns GDA will have to address this, not the local Thorns Academy

Same thing. GDA is just a different league for the same old Thorns Academy teams to play in. And get hammered mercilessly.

2003 class of 2021 is the last birth year. New rule takes effect with 2004 players class of 2022.

Nope. Class of 2020 as they'll be starting this fall. Next fall's 9th graders will be too late into HS to be allowed to play HS soccer by the GDA. Not that it mattes anyway. Clubs won't allow their top 18 to play HS.
