Before ECNL/Timbers academy start to pull players. Heavily dominated by metro area (shout out for 4-H, the one outlier so far):. No wonder Westside and THUSC cant stand each other, they are both good in their own realm.

1) Most of the fields being used for the semis and final matches are turf, and in many cases football gridirons (as noted in another thread, the football field at Beaverton HS in particular is a lousy place to play soccer). The only exceptions are two grass fields at the Howard Terpenning rec center (THPRD fields 4 and 5).

2) Most of the fields being used are in or close to Beaverton. (Beaverton HS, Aloha HS, Southridge HS, PCC Rock Creek, and THPRD's Terpenning center--also known as the Walker Road sports center, and frequently as simply "THPRD", although the district has many other facilities...). The last of these is a great multipurpose sports facility (and it has a nice parking lot, too); PCC is also nice. As noted above, the HS fields are less desirable. Cony and Tom A. may have their issues--but they probably both agree that having the state semis and finals in their shared backyard is beneficial. (The one venue not in Beaverton or the immediate vicinity is Buckman Park, in inner Portland, where the 9v9 matches are all being played).

Always been that way. Favoritism. When you get home games for what is supposed to be neutral, the system is rigged. Wouldn't be a big deal except it happens every year for the same clubs(s).

That has happened with the boys timbers academy too. Favoritism to westside players and its brought the quality way down. Top players from other clubs have said screw it and now the teams are weaker than some club teams. and younger players have caught on and avoided entirely. Not smart.

OYSA is located same area and existed here well before Cony and Tom even heard of Westside and THUSC. In fact, Westside didn't exist when State Cup games were being played on grass fields at the THPRD Rec Center. So actually THUSC and Westside are happen to be in OYSA's backyard.

It is interesting that after all these years, grass fields, "astro" turf fields, markings on fields, whatever, become an issue and critique point on forums. It occurs in many states.

Here, when we only had grass fields, our weather conditions created seasonal field access due to wear and tear, people complained about it. Now we have artificial turf fields provided to help almost year round programs across the state.

With more demands for field use by more groups, OYSA has to spread out games at other venues. I do remember attempts to move games down to Corvallis once but something with a contract for the second year-maybe a forum reader can shed the light on that-did it become a baseball park instead?
