But it has Voodoo Doughnut within walking distance.

Of course, BHS has Beaverton Bakery just down the street.

For whatever reason OYSA has used Buckman for U11 and U12 Presidents Cup in 2014 and 2015 plus the 2015 Founders Cup so they must have decided to continue using it for these State Cup games as well. The Buckman field is actually Portland Parks and Rec which is not available to Westside Timbers.

Didn't mean to imply Westside is responsible for Buckman (which is a fine facility, just way the fields lay out for u11/12 is quite small).

Point only is that we need to walk the walk on goal and field standards when it comes to state cup.

So clubs are judged on how many state cup finalists / winners they produce?

Why are clubs not judged on the retention of players, coaches and their development?

"This is not a small club with limited resources; Westside has one of the largest competitive program in the state and should be able to provide appropriate sized goals for state cup games.

However, that is really a complaint about holding clubs to field standards and less about the result of the game"

Sure sounded like you were holding Westside responsible for providing goals for these games. Which surprised me since you typically don't complain. My point in response was simply to take caution and first do the research to see who is actually responsible for field standards and the appropriate sized goals for the state games. Your complaint should be directed at OYSA and not at any club-which then unfairly becomes a target for some.

For what its worth, my son was a Westside goalie whose team had to go through double OT and full lot of PKs in his U11 year of state cup final and lost when one of his team mates shanked the ball with a full-sized regulation goal on a full-sized field, after an 11 v 11 game. Exciting and sad for the team but life goes on.

Given that Beaverton HS is a high school, there's no reason they would have U11/U12 goals on premises. Like most clubs, Westside has no grounds of its own and rents fields from wherever it can get them--it's most frequent hosts are THPRD and Beaverton School District, and Beaverton High School's American football field was the home field for quite a few Westside teams during spring league. (During fall league, U11/U12 home games were generally played at a local middle school, which had grass fields with the appropriate size goals).

It worked out fine last year using it for the girls finals at U-12. Never heard any complaints from Wash Timbers or CFC. If this is problem than the teams should boycott playing there and say something.
If your paying for something shouldn't it be correct?

...Buckman was used as a match location in last year's Beaverton Cup, despite that being a Westside-hosted tournament. Westside got lots of fields all around the metro area. (By the same token, Clash of the Border is played at venues in both sides of the river, despite being hosted by Washington Timbers and having the bulk of the games at Harmony).

Buckman's a nice place--except in the middle of July, when the turf fields surrounded by a heavily urban environment make it muy uncomfortable, both for players and for spectators.

                    So what happens then?

Fields are tough to find and now you make it even tougher for clubs and associations to use? Buckman is on the list for Portland Parks and Rec for OYSA, PYSA, PCU....

To bad schools around the area charge so much for field use. Be a good way to help support some of their sport program's.

The best way to survive is for clubs to own their own fields.

That's also a great way to go bankrupt.

                              Installing a turf is expensive

Maintaining a turf is also expensive.

Installing a grass field is less expensive, but they cost more to maintain. Either way, the economics are difficult--and tend to result in field shortages, as whoever owns a pitch wants to maximize its use. (But not to the point the field is damaged).

Throw in lighting issues, and it gets worse.

PCU uses Buckman and PCU and Westside have a friendly relationship, sending teams to one another's tournaments for years. I believe that they event co-host a 4-v-4 fundraiser tourney.

Clubs all reach out to find fields when there are issues with fields within their own area. However, the discussion began about State Cup, the size of goals, the size of fields. This is a completely different topic-onus probandi.
