I think that in the next year or so you will see a Super Elite league that only a few truly elite clubs can get into (probably the original ECNL). Once that happens ECNL won't have the same appeal that it has now.

It won't be all that different than ODP falling apart once ECNL came along and the most talented stop participating. After Southern Cal pulled out of Region Iv events the top local girls all started discovery playing ECNL and did not participate in ODP any longer. Then ODP became somewhat average at best. Oregon ECNL is average at best. There has to be a way to consolidate talent for girls similar to boys.

US CLUB SOCCER STATEMENT ON U.S. SOCCER GIRLS DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY
Posted at 22:57h in News Share
US Club Soccer is aware of the U.S. Soccer Federation’s plans to launch a Girls Development Academy in the fall of 2017.

US Club Soccer is proud to be the sanctioning body of the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL), the best girls development league in the world, since its inception. Over the years, we have worked closely with the ECNL to promote the best possible environment for young women to develop to their highest potential, and we look forward to continuing that effort. The grassroots leadership structure within the ECNL is a model for club collaboration across the country, and the concept of club and league respect and collaboration is one that US Club Soccer strongly supports in making the game better.

We applaud the Federation’s decision to invest more funds and resources into the women’s game. We will continue to support the Federation and its programs, and the ECNL and its clubs in their mission to “Raise the Game.” We hope that American soccer continues to grow, improve and succeed at all levels and in all programs.

1)US Soccer can't produce players that can win a World Cup on the Mens Side. The DA has failed.

        2) US Soccer thumbed their nose at the girls in 2009, hence the birth of the ECNL. With our current fractured system we have produced Mallory Pugh and have won numerous World Cups.

        3) US Soccer out the birth year change with zero data to prove it works. Again this was put out for the boys but it affects the girls.

        4) US Soccer is asking girls to give up tournaments, guest play, ODP and high school ball for 4x per week practice, with few games and more players on the roster. Frankly only 2-3 girls will actually get called to the WNT pool. Really not good odds or a good trade off.

        5) The So cal forum and nor cal forum are for the most part tearing up the DA and are balking at joining.

ECNL is not perfect and need improvements but it is here for our girls. US Soccer will always be for the boys. As soon as the US WNT starts losing they will drop girls DA like a hot potato.
US Soccer can't be trusted. US soccer won't make it free because they don't give a **** about the girls.

Not to mention #6, No re-entry after substitutions. Subs will never get in a game in the 1st half and most won't get any PT.

That's why DA often isn't worth it unless you're a starter, maybe through player #14. Many kids hardly ever see the field despite DA regs on the # of starts. It's easy - teams will start players to satisfy the minimum then quickly pull them out.

That's what I've been saying for the last two years, however the ECNL parents still keep thinking it's viable. I try to tell them that yes, they sent ECNL patches here to Oregon, but ECNL really never arrived.

It's doing a lot more for the girls than the Timbers clubs and Thorns Academy have done. Those TA clubs have regressed to where they aren't even rec level any more and the girls can't even get on their HS JV teams.

Sorry there Jr. but we had two ECNL girls on our HS team who didn't make varsity. So don't get so uppity there. ECNL doesn't mean all that you think it does. On some teams, ECNL level players run maybe 3 or 4 deep, that's it. The rest are equivilent or are worse than these so called TA players you are putting down. Oregon ECNL teams are getting clocked by some mid and low level ECNL clubs. And if you think ECNL is really doing a lot for the girls here, then you must be referring to teaching them to keep their chins up after drubbings week after week. I know some parents on ECNL teams who are actually getting pretty fed up with losing all of the time, and losing big.

Actually, we had a freshman from our Timbers club make varsity, at a decent 6A school. We have older kids too, boy and girl doing premier and smaller clubs and HS varsity at top level. It really depends more on the kid than the team. You can get some really good experience at many different teams and clubs. Do what is best for your kid and family. Really now is a good time to get together with your friends go talk to the clubs and demand what is best for your kids. Many quit club soccer at hs, our youngest is to play other sports. We have had many friends burn out, get injured etc. All the changes are just making soccer worse not better from our perspective. Please quit criticizing other clubs and work on making it better for everyone. Choice is good.

No, they learned to keep their heads up long ago, due to the thugball they experienced trying to play soccer against Timbers teams.

most portland ecnl teams have 4-5 top players and the rest are a mix of mid/low level players.

All Timbers teams have 4-5 low level players and the rest are a rec.

And yet the 2018 class for the TA teams have two Pac 12 commits while that awful CU team has zero. Zero to anywhere. Maybe saying that there are 3-4 ECNL level players on that team is being too generous.

I may be wrong, but there are 3 Pac 12 commits with ECNL (2 at FC and 1 at CU). I am also guessing the only girl in the area that was invited to the U16 USWNT camp will also land in a good spot
