Fact of the matter is, the winning percentage in ECNL doesn't matter. What matters is whether the girls are developing better and faster facing strong competition all the time. The answer to this is clearly YES; just look at how the gap between the ECNL teams and the Timbers teams has widened in just 2 years of ECNL. There is already no comparison between the two.

We have always finished well in these competitions. Not sure why you criticize teams and clubs from smaller communities like ours (Eugene). Our TA club/coaches/DOC all do a good job training kids from our area. Good luck in State Cup or ENCL or wherever your kids are playing.

When people are talking about the TA clubs, they are specifically referring to Portland area. And as far as the success Eugene has had, they had that success prior to being apart of the Timbers Alliance. Being from a smaller area is tough for options and Eugene has done a good job of training players and helping them get to the next level. We are also from a smaller area and have chosen to go to Portland from some years now, soccer wise however, being from Eugene does not allow you the same options. There is an option available to your daughter without having to leave her current club but participate in ECNL. If your daughter is a great player and needs more than what she is able to get locally, she can stay with her local club and be a discovery player for an ECNL team, just a suggestion and something if interested go straight to one of the ECNL teams DOCs, don't try to get the facts here.

ECNL discovery players think they can skip training and just play, but doesn't this go against the ECNL emphasis on training vs games?

We had a girl on our team who always trained with us and never trained with her discovery team. And one of my dd's classmates in college played for an ECNL team that was in San Diego and she lived in Las Vegas and didn't travel over to train weekly. It's up to the coach.

One of my older daughters was a discovery player first in Colorado then in Washington and never attended a practice but traveled and played every game. My younger daughter plays Oregon ECNL and we are giving serious consideration to moving clubs, training local and discovery play on a good team in another geographical area. The difference in the level of play between my younger daughter's Oregon team and my older daughters ECNL teams is night and day. It is disappointing and there is no alternative but to leave the state.
