ECNL evolves every year. Let's see what their answer to the DA challenge is. replacing ECNL with the word DA and run by people who have failed the boys I'd say no thanks. DA will be a tier 2 league.

The quality of the coaching, free tuition, dreams of a pro career attract top players from all over. The differences between the MLS and non MLS is large and gets bigger each year. This won't happen on the women's side. For a quite some time it will be the same coaches, many of whom will be studying to get the proper licensure and hopefully keep their jobs. Clubs can't just go out and find quality coaches overnight, and to get the best you have to pay.
However, MLS teams like Portland couldn't develop a homegrown talent to save their lives. They need those non-MLS DA clubs to do the real work for them.

As much as I'd like to make fun and laugh with you I will have to disagree.
Portland DA program is not even 3 years old. They just hired a top Director for the Academy.
Portland is 5-7 years from seeing the fruits of their labor. I only wish they weren't such tight azzes because they truly could help the soccer in this area.

The Portland Timbers have a class of graduates who just finished their second season of college ball. I think you'll be seeing a few of these boys on the field at Providence Park in a couple of years.

Agree. Everyone expects immediate results because all most people want is wins. Developing players or students or musicians or artists or business people or you name it takes years not weeks or months.

As for the Timbers being "tight azzes", well their owner's dad knows a thing or two about how to make money and a whole lot of it. The guy has serious financial creds. I don't see them all of the sudden becoming free spending.

It would be cool to see some our local players make the first team some day for either the Timbers or Thorns. I could care less which local club them come from. Representing your home town pro team(s) would be pretty special.

                  Thorns are hardly "pro".

I love the anti-ECNL guy who has nothing but bad things to say about ECNL and how everyone was throwing their money away. As I have always said if you live in Oregon and you want to play at a very high level then get ready to spend some cash on travel

But if they start a DA for girls it will be free and sunshine will fly out of our behinds.

anything is better than what we have now on the girls side... a diluted mess where none of the teams are any good. It's not fair to the top players on each of the teams. these are facts not up for debate.

If you consider yourself a top player and you aren't playing ECNL then why? This is not going to force consolidation. Coaches aren't going to change and travel cost will not change.

Please explain how this improves soccer in Oregon?

It's twisted when $800 per month for soccer is no big deal.

Right now we have 2 ECNL clubs that have abut 95% of the top talent. The other 5% is scattered around the state. 0% is at Thorns Academy. I'd say that 95% at just two clubs is not diluted, rather it's highly consolidated. Best thing for the girls is to eliminate Thorns Academy just so the odd decent player doesn't get misled into thinking that Thorns is actually elite and wasting a year there like several did last year.
