Eastside, FC, THUSC and Westside all have won national championships at youth level; Concordia and UP at the collegiate; and Thorns and Timbers at the pro level.

Don't understand why Oregon soccer sucks is so often said on here. Simply not true relative to our population, at least in the US.

Globally (on the men's side)? Different story at the pro all the way down to youth. However, that says more about the US game/structure than anything particular in Oregon.

Some have even moved on to greener pastures because of Gary's efforts. THe academy is good for skills and game speed decision improvement. Now that Victor is gone no one has any good reason not to give it a try. It's just one night a week, so you can play for your club team and get some extra training.
Is Victor out of the entire club or only from the teams he was coaching? Hes on their website still.

Web site is not maintained, Victor is no longer associated with the club. I heard he went to LASC, but that was not first hand information.

Maybe, maybe not. It's all perspective. Regardless, the Timbers are the best soccer club in the U.S. So if you are going to be associated with soccer in the U.S., it's best to be affiliated with the best.

Obviously, I am better than you. But that doesn't mean that you are bad. Just not as good as me.

He is on the website because they don't have any admin. Spartans are not a club. It is simply a group of neighborhood kids that call themselves the Spartans. Technically they are PCU because they play under the PCU banner thus the quality of play. I love PCU's model , they do well with the middle to lower groups. I would go as far to say that PCU has the best overall model in PDX. It's infortunate that PCU would get in bed with the likes of these slimy dudes.

Bottom line, Spartans is not a club

spartans are another option for the recreational player. If you are paying club prices for Spartans, don't do it.

This is directed at anyone willing to respond.

What club are you associated with and what makes it a better choice? Everyone likes to come here and belittle other local youth soccer programs anonymously, but no one ever offers data to support their claims. Not asking who you are, don't care. But I'm sure some of you know who I am.

The confused state of Soccer in America

It's not a sport we 'Americans' created.

It has been and always be the runaway world #1 sport.

Falling maybe to a 4th or 5th tier in TV and commercial popularity in these United States.(Behind American Football, Baseball, Basketball & Hockey)

The name of the sport is actually Football and only called 'soccer' in the states since Americans had already created a sport played with your hands and called it "American Football'? Pure Genius!

Anyway the 'best' team in any professional or amateur league of Football (Soccer in the US) is the winner of the league and considered the best team. They are called league champions without any post season cup to contradict this reality. But, here in the grand ole USA we have to have a Super Bowl, World Series, NBA World Championsip playoffs to let other teams who might not of been the best over a season. have a chance to win over the documented best. It's just so American!

Why all this jibbersh? The timbers were not the best team in the MLS during the 2015 season, that team was actually the New York Red Bulls, being awarded the Supporters Shield title which in any other Football professional league in the Planet would of been the end of it.

The Timbers did navigate through the post season 'MLS CUP' tournament by eliminating Sporting Kansas City, Vancouver White Caps, FC Dallas and the Columbus Crew and are bestowed the title of 'MLS CUP' champions. Which can never be taken away.

When every single global professional Football league calls the league winner 'THE CHAMPION' and the Best Team, it creates a conundrum for the MLS fan as to who is the BEST team in the MLS the winner of the league -Supporters Shield- ( the world standard) or the american invention of league playoffs winner?

The MLS really has two champions:
League Champions New York Red Bulls
& MLS Cup Playoff Champions. Portland Timbers

It's how we try and assimilate a sport we have no real understanding of and give it our yankee novice twist.

Surprised we don't call it the MLS World Cup :)

I agree. Whoever used "discarded/disbanded" are stupid. I will say though that many positive changes have started in the PDX area. I know that the Spartans were formed because the area was struggling. I think now with some of those positive changes in the area that the Spartans fall off the wayside

The MLS has one champion - the winner of the MLS Cup. The supporters shield doesn't mean much when the teams play an unbalanced schedule. It's a nice award, but that's about it.

What's funny is any truncated playoff format has an 'unbalanced schedule' as well.
The MLS Cup is a nice post season min-tourney for a handful of teams, but that's about it.

Not too well thought out this response...only the last few years has the regular season not been a balanced schedule, primarily due to expansion past 20 teams.

The MLS league used a balanced schedule when Portland and Vancouver joined MLS in 2011 and many times prior to 2011.

So does that mean MLS post season Cup was just a fun tourney in the post season over the last two decades with a 'balanced' schedule?

The MLS formally recognizes two champions with different awards.

                              LEAGUE CHAMPION-'Supporters Shield'
                              MLS PLAYOFF CHAMPION-'MLS CUP'

Welcome to Soccer American Style :)

Spartans are fine for a little extra training. It's just not a club that can compete at a high level. It's more for recreational players. That's fine. Just realize what it is.
