Isn't it cute, a new crop of U14 ECNL parents on here telling everyone how they were promised Pac 12 scholarships if they join ECNL. Their barely rec players will now become top players merely by putting on that ECNL uniform. That's how it works for Oregon ECNL. Meanwhile, poor Washington ECNL who is now forced to play the likes of Oregon, Boise and Utah when before they were playing good California teams. Another year, another clean sweep in league for the Washington teams (but why should it be any different from NWCL?) and another year of maybe one (the FCP U18 team) making it to ECNL top level end of year tournament.

Yes, all of the rest of the teams will play in the "everyone gets a trophy" bracket. Where they will still lose all three games.

Those "poor" Washington teams still play NorCal and Colorado teams, just like before. Maybe if you actually knew something about ECNL you wouldn't say so many stupid things. Back to your cave, TA clown!

I want my DD to compete against all comers, local or not. It's not "good enough" to be a big fish in a small pond. How do you think the best become the best? Not by settling for "good enough".

I want to instill an attitude that learning to compete is important in sports and in life. I want my daughter to be strong an confident and not be among the sheep of the world, where "good enough" works.
Dude !! Your DD will come to quit the game some time around high school or shortly there after. You just dont know it yet. Shes gonna start liking boys more then soccer and it's gonna eat you up inside, all this anger and competition you want her to have (from your inabilities as a youngster I would presume).

When I said go beat all the teams 2x within a 5 hour drive, you only looked to our Southern border. Trying wrenching your crooked lil neck the other direction. Lets us all know when youve defeated those just a short drive North (including the teams from BC) and those just across our border to the East.

There is lots of good competitive teams right here in the NW that will send you home a loser and do so for about 50% the expense you spend to travel elsewhere. Since you focus is only on "the best competition", why is it you have to look so far to find it ?

Only as a round robbin and, if you knew how to count, you would realize that if you ADD games against these crap teams, you take away games against the good teams. So instead of playing Real So Cal or So Cal Blues, they play Oregon. Yawn. Think before you speak next time junior.

Good point. For years Crossfire, Thusc and FCP have been getting their butts handed to them in NCWL by RCL teams. Yet those clubs think they can compete against better competition in ECNL. Clearly, last year's results proved otherwise and this year's results are on par or worse.

Funny, but Thusc, Crossfire and FC weren't regular league or state cup winners in Oregon. Funny how you forget this.

Well hell, why even try? In soccer or in life in general. Want to compete against better/good teams? No, why even try; they're better after all. Want scholarships, academic or athletic? Don't even think about it; someone else is smarter and better. Want a great job? No! Someone else oh there is more deserving.

I'd hate to think that's the message your conveying to your DD.

Dude!!!! We get it. ECNL threatens you. We get that you're terribly concerned about other people's wellbeing, how they spend their money and about other people's daughters sexuality (you're a pervert). I'm sure you're this great guy who just wants everyone to be average and sexual deviants like yourself. Dude!!!

I can see how you would be offended by someone saying that she will start liking boys. Sorry, we didn't notice the rainbow flag out in front of your house.

Stupid posts are stupid. They had a near monopoly on state cups.

That's right, why even try. Those teams failed in NWCL (which isn't even as good as FWRL) and they didn't even regularly win league in Oregon. If you think otherwise, then you have no idea about the history of Oregon soccer.

TA this, ECNL that, WCDA, FWRL, Academy, ODP, "National Camp"...
One of the earlier posters was right, few players from Oregon will be good enough for soccer to be meaningful to them. Even if there is scholarship money available, what's it going to be? 1/2 scholarship to UP?
The cost of all these youth program is getting crazy. There are no monies put back into the system from alumni that made it pro. There are few real corporate sponsorship.
But parents are told they have to pay to go to play the better competition so they can get college visibility - all while no real work is put into developing the players ability.
How about refocusing on the kids instead of the damn program?
Teams that are good enough qualify to play the next level, not just an arbitrary selection of clubs and leagues.
Many of you here have youngers. When my oldest was coming up thru club, the only top tier game was ODP. The best (and sometimes 2nd best) made it. If you advanced you were probably something special. Now we have monikers and labels that [SAY] "I'm the best". These parents stepped up and paid for that (MLS, ECNL, ID2, FWRL, ODP, Academy, WCDA) patch so they could tell everyone that my kid is playing at the highest level and I spent more then the rest to prove it.

Back in the day, most realistic parents knew if their kids team was good. They beat all that came at them locally. They won their state cup (when only one existed so everyone had to funnel thru the same tourney). They branched out slowly to other areas and if they succeeded they moved South to California. Home to the countries best teams each year. There was no denying that fact. Regardless of your age, there was a team there that was in the top 3 nationwide that was at every top level tourney all year long. If you wanted to test your skill all you had to do was make one trip to Surf (if you could qualify). If you didnt succeed (meaning a podium finish) there wasnt any use in going back.

If your child was a star on that team, they played ODP. If they were star there, they advanced in camp and so on. The funnel became very narrow when you got to that point. There were some that would seek those "semi-pro" club teams and if selected would train locally, and travel to games where the team would assemble before the match(s).

Take a look around. We have the same coaches we had 15 years ago. Doing the same drills, working for the same clubs. Producing the same results. What has changed ?

Nothing has changed, except now there are more funnels (money grabs). In the end your kiddo has to make the cut when it matters. If they cant do it locally (regionally), then they wont do it on a national stage either (no matter how much money you throw at it).

Im not blaming or pointing fingers at any of the clubs or organizations, other then to say they gave you what you asked for. You wanted more and are willing to spend more to have it. Not that it's doing your child any good, it's fulfilling your ego and desire.
