UofO coach will be gone soon. Pac12 coaches need to get results, regardless of whether players like the coach or not.

It gets worse when a team's final results are not very good because those players think that if they are playing the results would be different
I don't disagree that there are always favorites. However the Pac 12 network doesn't lie. You can watch games and watch players and listen to the announcers. Why would you pull a person that has almost scored a couple of times to put your favorites in only to lose the game? Doesn't make sense. Seriously it happens all the time.

There are lots of examples of individuals getting some but not much playing time with Oregon and moving on and get amazing playing time at the new school. At the end of the day we contend with favoritism throughout life and it doesn't necessarily mean that one person or the other is bad. It simply means that the fit is wrong.

Is she 6''1"? This is the only one I know who really likes Kat. The others who play frequently and are impact players not so much. The 6'1" girl while capable of scoring when standing in front of the goal isn't a very good soccer player at this level. So, I am not surprised that she loves Kat. She should because no other coach in their right mind would have ever started her and would likely have saved her for corner kicks and throw ins only.

This is the bottom line. A Pac12 sports school like UofO should be getting better results. Time for a new coach. Especially if the majority of the team dislikes her that much.

Agree. The money that goes into their sports programs is over the top. It is an embarrassment to be at the bottom of the PAC!!

Women's college soccer in the PAC 12 is a net money loser for colleges in OR. They will hire the cheapest and most willing.

All sports but football are net money losers for most PAC 12 schools. A couple make money on basketball, but that's it.

True but female athletics lose more. That's why I'm torn on title 9. While I like that it helps give opportunities to women, it really reversely discriminates to males outside of football. I personally think that football should be excluded from the equation. It generally is a money maker. Money drives everything. Treat football differently because, well, it's different. But For the remaining sports, scholarships and programs should be equal for boys and girls as they are more equitable in cost and revenue and generally do not pay for themselves. And I do have a daughter who plays soccer.

All D1 sports schools want winning teams (the UofO regularly gets rid of non-winning coaches in all the sports - softball, women's golf, women's basketball, etc. - women's soccer is no exception. That's the world for all D1 coaches, especially at the UofO: get some good results or you're gone. That's why there is so much coaching turnover in D1. Just the way it is.

It's true that everybody wants a winner. It's not true that all schools are willing to do something about it. That's why there are perennial losers. They don't care. It's also why there are some D2 schools that are better at some sports than many D1 programs: they care and make a commitment to the sport. For example: Western Washington made a big commitment to women's soccer. They'd be competitive if they played D1 in any conference. Would they be better than the top D1 programs: probably not. But the remaining D1 programs aren't better than the top programs either.

Like Concordia... it's the best women's team in Oregon for college soccer.

True but this thread is about the UofO. The UofO cares. There will be a new women's soccer coach very soon.

Wouldn't that be great if it were true? At least it is cheaper and your kid can live at home.

They finished second in their league in their first year in D2. Pretty remarkable achievement. They should be playoff bound in two years when they come off of the probation imposed by the NCAA when moving to D2 from NAIA.

U of O should go after a successful NAIA,, D2 or low FCS coach. Forget the washed out D1 coaches. Mertz wan't setting the world on fire at her last job.

AD just needs to do his job and do a little research on this. It takes maybe two evenings to find the top NAIA, D2 programs.
