Because nobody wants to go to Oregon.

Why not? Top Female & male athletes in many other sports choose Oregon. Why not soccer?

Yeah, you can tell that from how well the football team is doing.

There are some top 150 recruits in each class choosing Oregon for soccer, just not in the top 50. There are soccer athletes wanting to go to Oregon.

The Oregon inquiry had me thinking I should of checked 2018 to see if the story is different.

            2018
30/50 top ranked recruits have committed
Committed to west coast schools - 9
            PAC12 - 7 (Arizona 2, UW 1, UCLA 1, USC 1, Oregon 1, Stanford 1)
WCC - 2 (BYU, Santa Clara)
Other conferences on west coast - 0

It will be interested what happens with the remaining 20 of the top 50 recruits.

Sure, because they'll get to play at Oregon instead of riding the pine at Standford or NC.

The point was that the WCC has more competition on the west coast now for talent not that they don't get any.
Quit making excuses for UofP. Your conclusion makes absolutely no sense.

Top players have always been drawn to the PAC12: Stanford, UCLA, Cal, etc...

There was a point of time where players were drawn to Clive @ Portland and Jerry @ Santa Clara. That has less to do with the WCC than the coaches.

You are is reading the whole point, but that is fine. Simply not worth it.

What does "You are is reading the whole point" mean?

It was supposed to be misreading.

Agree. I wonder if UP will need to go the international route (or back to it) like Gonzaga in BB or Florida St. in soccer - at least to supplement. UP has such a rich history and name recognition in women's soccer, but it's not going to be long before players of the caliber of a Danica Evans type won't even consider coming from other parts of the country. A small decent academic school in PDX has some advantages for the right recruit, but it's going to be more difficult than ever with the money being thrown at Pac 12 programs.

How many scholarships does Smith have to work with? 14?

If 14 he needs to break them up better and bring in more players and less from Portland FC

They shouldn't take any from Oregon. Just look at OSU and UofO rosters and how well they're doing and they are not from FC.

UofP takes about 1 a year from FC on average. But they take the best they can get whether or not they are from FC.

Smith just has to do a better job recruiting. If he going to the ecnl event in Phoenix? I did not see his name.
