The reality is if a player plans to attend UofP, there is a good chance that they will end up at FC Portland to get a head start. If a girl is talented she would get recruited regardless of club. There is just not a ton of talent in the area, including some girls who end up committing to UofP. I don't think all of the FC Portland UofP commits are getting strong offers from UofP.
So if there is not lots of talent in portland? Why is G and Lisa recruiting in state kids? Answer is they can't land big fish outside of state so they have to go with the kids that they have made wait for so long. It's like being the last one picked for a game of kick ball at recess! I feel bad that these portland kids don't even realize it!

That championship was 10 years ago and has been getting worse ever since! They are no longer a contender anymore more of a pretender. It is time for G to leave I know many of the women on that wonderful championship team, and many of them never really liked G to begin with. During there time at the bluff many of those same women wanted to quit because of him. Many recruits have been scared away by him as well because he has no personality and is very awkward around the girls.

Could you do us all a favor and explain what is actually going well for the program as of now and giving you some reason for optimism? (Besides the cavalcade of FC kids headed there.)
Here's the rub, I'm not even a big fan of UP soccer. My issue is all the whining about how terrible this program is. Well show me another "local" D1 program that has reached the pinnacle that UP has. What "local" program has become or is the current "gold standard"? I can tell you...none.

Bandwagon/ fair weather fans are the worst. Women's soccer has been THE only bright spot for UP. It certainly hasn't been baseball or basketball.

I think we agree that UofP soccer has been great. I think most of us have watched the steady decline and wish it to reverse and become relevant again. Doesn't make us fair weather fans in fact we are still fans. We just want to win again.

Unfortunately, more schools want to win now also. The landscape for women's soccer has changed with its increased popularity. Recruiting against the bigger, brand name soccer programs with bigger budgets have increased the challenge. Now add larger schools that didn't have a First tier soccer program commiting more money and resources.

That is the competitive recruiting landscape that UP has to compete in. They still manage to get very good players. But, they now rely on those players much earlier in their careers. They don't have the luxury of developing and maturing for a season or two.

My point is, it's all about having a proper perspective. There are reasons and factors behind decline beyond the easy assertion that the coaching sucks. Hell any idiot can do that. Unfortunately, to many do.

The coaching is stale and should change. It doesn't mean they're bad people or bad coaches. They've just been there a long time trying to carry on what Clive started but none of them are Clive. While we remember Clive, today's recruits never knew who he was and it's time to move on.

The big 'D1' destinations for girls here in Oregon. The roster at these institutions are inundated with playsers from Westside, Thusc, Eugene and FC.

This is why Oregon needed ECNL. Being on top of the pile of crap that is Oregon soccer isn't enough for the next level of play.
This is spot on. If our Oregon D1 teams recruit from Oregon's much lesser pool of talent, no way they can compete. Only the very rare Oregon player can compete with the Washington, CalNorth, CalSouth, etc players at the high school age. What makes these colleges think so many Oregon girls can compete against them in college?

Take a look at the UP roster. The majority aren't from Oregon.
