The point is that players at the younger ages do not benefit by going to a distant club when there are some excellent development opportunities all over. It really depends on the coach and has very little to do with what club they attended at an early age. As an example, there have been Vancouver club girls and ET club girls who are much more successful in the long run than those who were at FCP or Oregon Crossfire United from cradle through high school. Why drive an 1.5 hours per night to practice when there are good development opportunities less than 30 minutes away? It is simply ridiculous until a player has honestly outgrown a team. This happens too.

I think many parents are getting caught up in the attempt to CREATE a great player out of what should simply be a good activity for their child until your child is obviously ahead of everyone else.

Your reasoning doesn't belong on this board. Go away we are trying to prove that all clubs in Oregon suck.

Top girls start consolidating at u13 or u14 anyway - just like always. Only difference is now many of the top consolidate at ECNL. Nothing surprising. Parents and players just want the best chance to play with & against the best.

Let me answer that for you, because there are excellent players spread throughout the geography of the metro area and they want winning teams. It has very LITTLE to do with development at that point.

Development is somewhat individual. For young players it is just plain silly to travel to a "winning" team when they are getting excellent development in their back yard.
Those athletes from other clubs gravitate to THUSC because they know they need more development than they are getting at their neighborhood TA club.

Those now happen to be the ECNL options, so nothing has changed....players will still move in their last few years of soccer, it is what it is.
The movement used to be at U15. Now, with ECNL starting at U13, the movement is happening at U12.

Trouble is that clubs like Vantucky and Eastside don't have the top coaches. That's why so many girls go to FCP or THUSC.

That is also why no girls from Vancouver or Eastside play college soccer.

Lots do. They just don't get there via Washington Timbers or Eastside Timbers clubs.

No girls who played soccer for VT or ET play college soccer. Only players who live in Vancouver or Gresham who play soccer or FC or THUSC or Oregon Crossfire. Got it.

The only people that seem to have patience are the club boards. When someone is doing a terrible job and because the board does not understand soccer development, no action is taken.

The DOC's just want more players to join their club so that their salary is covered. This just makes the soccer program about numbers and it becomes a farce because the DOC does not monitor the group or their staff.

Tell me one club that does this? Tell me one club that has a structure on how to develop their players? I think it may be close to zero!

Oregon clubs need to hire quality DOC's that teach their coaching staff. If they do not take this route then Oregon soccer will be in the hole for years to come.
Get with the fact that your lame child is headed to the "B" team.

That's good. Chess Club means she has some brains and won't be a beauty school drop out after her illustrious soccer career of earning medals at the Chinook Cup is over. You should be encouraging Chess Club.

Your ugly daughter will do well after her rec soccer time has ended. JV must have been fun.

My daughter never would have thought that a Chinook Cup event would have meant anything other than a day of scrimmage !

I don't think you understood my post (or ever will for that matter)

Some people have responded with some ridiculous quotes. One being about development is about how many players they send to college. If that is your idea of development then in my opinion, you are way off the mark. Look at the drop out rate at all these so called 'Top clubs'. They are not capable of getting a group of players at U9 and coaching them. That team will change so much over a 5 year period and after that 5 years a lot of the original players will have quit soccer. This is a fact that some of you guys cannot see. Must be a bunch of Republicans that hog this site :-(
These players that play college would have played college no matter what club they would have joined. If a girl is an athlete and she joins THUSC, FC, Westside, LO, BSC she will play college. It has nothing to do with the coaching staff. Yes, the club gives them the opportunity but they will still go and play college. Get real people!!!
