The majority do ot have any!!

Patience is the most important part of developing a child at anything. Unfortunately, people do not have the mindset to understand this. This includes DOC's. The only people that seem to have patience are the club boards. When someone is doing a terrible job and because the board does not understand soccer development, no action is taken.

The DOC's just want more players to join their club so that their salary is covered. This just makes the soccer program about numbers and it becomes a farce because the DOC does not monitor the group or their staff.

Tell me one club that does this? Tell me one club that has a structure on how to develop their players? I think it may be close to zero!

Oregon clubs need to hire quality DOC's that teach their coaching staff. If they do not take this route then Oregon soccer will be in the hole for years to come.

There are clubs with a proper structure and philosophy. Just look for the 2 or 3 that put the most kids in college.

      this stat gives false recognition.

most of your clubs here that have top coaches at the High School level recruit at the High School Level....they did not develop the players.

you need to look for the following:

      1. Weekly Cirriculum that is followed closely.
      2. Training is ability based where movement happens
      3. Club trains at one location so the two things above are able to happen

So you've narrowed it down to FC Portland then. Good work there Sherlock.

I agree with this. My children all started out and some stayed with Eastside Timbers. Three have gone on to play college soccer. My daughters ended up moving teams at the high school age because Oregon doesn't really have enough players so they consolidate and this generally occurs west of the river. Even so, the foundation of all of their skills came from Eastside and served the purpose. Bring on the haters.

Hopefully she moved across the river while there was still time for the west side club to correct all the bad things she was taught at Eastside. Usually takes a couple of years.

Where is this paradise club?? Our outlying club has no competition for players so we have a DoC that only does what he wants based on money & his own friendships - including the board members kids so that they let him do whatever he wants.

I guess you think your funny? Why do you think THUSC recruits all the good players from other teams? Let me answer that for you, because there are excellent players spread throughout the geography of the metro area and they want winning teams. It has very LITTLE to do with development at that point.

Development is somewhat individual. For young players it is just plain silly to travel to a "winning" team when they are getting excellent development in their back yard.

It's not that they recruit those players, it's that those players seek out where success is happening either on the field or college recruiting. That ends up with just a few options, in the past FC Portland, THUSC and Crossfire Oregon. Those now happen to be the ECNL options, so nothing has changed....players will still move in their last few years of soccer, it is what it is.

From our experience of 2+kids (boy, girl, premier and not, 2 different clubs):

Find the coach and team you like and go from there. We have seen parents push their kids too hard, the kid burns out and quits. Start with your local club if that does not seem to be a good fit, find one near by. As your kid plays other teams and coaches, you will get a good idea if there is some other place that is a better fit.

We have friends that were great athletes, playing basketball and other sports, that had to make tough choices.

There are no one club fits all kids! Each team, age group and player is different. You have to
make the best decision for your kid - each year - as it may change, unfortunately.

I am not the poster that you are responding to but obviously you are with one of these clubs OR your child isn't a highly sought after player. Believe me they do recruit, overtly, directly and brazenly. They call, have players who know your kid text and call, invite you to guest play and so forth. We chose Crossfire Premier as at the age group the aforementioned clubs just didn't have enough to offer in terms of true success. For our other daughter the aforementioned clubs are just fine. It is individualistic.

Your dd must be exceptional. For the girls who can't make Crossfire Premier or the distance to Seattle, Crossfire United and FCP ECNL are the next best thing for the same reasons you chose Crossfire Premier.
