    Opl dead - lol

Everyone knew this was going to happen.

Where are the incompetent fools that said otherwise.

Bottom line is that the league was a rec league

    OPL killed Rec soccer.
    Now it lives at OYSA

The same incompetent fools who created and ran the OPL pulled everyone back to OYSA. Congratulations on your stupidity.

I could care less if it is OPL or OYSA, the bottom line is that Oregon is too small to have 2 different leagues. Get over yourself when it comes to who is running it or which league is "dead". One league is despatetely needed

True - this is all that really matters at this point. That being said, has there been an "official" announcement on if this is actually happening??? I'm a current OPL parent and I could care less about which league "wins out" in this fiasco, but I do know I don't want to travel to Bend, Eugene, Medford for a single league game (nor do any of the other parents on our team). We are a only a Division 2 level team, so I see no need to invest that much time/money for a single game at this level, especially when there are more than enough local teams to play.
Yes, I know you will say just play "rec", but whether you believe it or not, there is still a HUGE difference between Division 1/2 teams and rec. My kid likes to play soccer year-round but just isn't good enough to play on a top premiere team, so that's why the previous OPL league worked well for us....local play and at decent skill level with other kids that play soccer as their main sport. There are hundreds of kids playing at this level, so what's the plan for these kids? Trust me, you aren't going to get these levels of teams to travel hundreds of miles for a single league game.

No one is forcing you to do anything. Do what works best for your family. But don't expect a league tailor made to your desires and your kid's skill level. The reunited league will be one where most will need to compromise. Either the compromises required work for you or they don't.

this is simple.....every player that does not want to travel can play rec. Its quite simple.

They already do. It's called Eastside Timbers Premier.

I have some history with Oregon competitive youth soccer. I have had 4 kids play at differing levels with 2 of them prior to the OPL/OYSA split. Honestly, my "B" team boy did not travel all that much if ever (I can't remember) to play in the OYSA league. My premier level kids have traveled some with my kid who now plays in college traveling non stop from about age 15 on. My observation is that the amount of travel for league play is directly proportional to the level of play.

If you can't travel at all then I don't really understand what the point of competitive soccer is. After all, travel is part of the experience.

the travel matches in Southern Oregon are typically 2 games in a weekend. One game Saturday and the other on Sunday - one in Grants Pass, the other in Medford. Still not fun, but at least it isn't just one match.

In modern day Oregon you are forced travel in order to play any matches.

                        Why?

The extinction of our state's successful talent centrist teams model at the club level-- to a mass pay to play model--driven by the demand of meeting payroll each month for the 25+ (so called) premier clubs & their 'professional' coaching staff, without any regard for assembling talented well coached teams, all they need nowadays is a blind eye paying audience. (They have it)

So instead of having a few really talented teams separated from the pack--now you have 10 to 15 teams in the area at each age group, that are all classic/rec plus level clubs/teams and somehow they call themselves Premier clubs, with not an eyebrow raised from the paying mob of imbecile parents.

The club teams of today don't have one state league to play competitive games in against similar teams, so they are forced to travel all over the Northwest and to out of state tournaments just to get games.

Mainly due to the split of teams into two crap ball leagues at present.

Understanding the reality that average classic rec + teams are the staple of Oreogn youth soccer & now they all have year round paid professional (LoL) coaches who are depending on your fees to support their hobby as a local rec+ classic coach.

Then if you have a daughter you are forced to travel at 3 local clubs not because Oregon is hotbed of super teams that hammer everyone in state. Basically those 3 clubs ran out of ideas on how to improve the game in Oregon. The option they chose at a club level for their membership? why not just have the parents spend a fortune travelling for the hell of it and please enjoy the trips as you get your tails whipped by any team of any merit in another state or tell yourself that the scenic beauty of Idaho & Utah is worth the money and these destinations serve as the only chance to ever win a game.

You missed the point there is no competitive soccer in Oregon, so you asked the right Question why travel?

                        To escape I guess.

It's not that simple...I don't mind traveling 2 hours for a game, but it's 600+ miles and 9-10hours round trip to Medford (and sometimes an overnight stay). I have yet to speak to a single parent that doesn't have a problem with this for a regular league game at our level of play. Are you saying we all just need to play rec because we think this is unreasonable?

P.S. sorry Medford parents, nothing personal, I'm sure you don't like traveling that far to us either.

I understand and appreciate your concerns. But unfortunately at this point those are your options.
