Girls Academy to be implemented from Soccer America Article:

"U.S. Soccer is exploring three initiatives that it hopes will strengthen the women's program:

-- residency program for girls;
-- development academy for girls; and
-- summer program for college women.

"I think it is quite likely that at least a couple of those programs will be implemented relatively shortly," said Gulati, "and we'll look at all three."

The most ambitious is a residency program different from the under-17 boys program that has been operated in Bradenton, Fla., since 1999 with a new cycle of players coming in every two years after the Under-17 World Cup."

Look for ECNCL to take over the DA for girls possibly affecting the next season:

"The other two women's initiatives are more straightforward.

U.S. Soccer works with the ECNL, the 77-club circuit operating nationally in five age groups, in terms of player development. The next step would for U.S. Soccer to operate an academy-like setup like it does on the boys side with the Development Academy with its own rules for monitoring player development. To provide more opportunities for college players, U.S. Soccer is looking into launching a summer program perhaps in conjunction with the NWSL, the women's pro league it manages. (Gulati reiterated that U.S. Soccer is also considering operating a summer league on the men's side.)"

Doesn't really lay out much of a plan. Some recycled ideas that will probably be half-heartedly implemented with the end result being even more disfunction than there is now. The real problem is that US Soccer leadership doesn't understand what the problems are so they are constantly changing things just to see if they work. No vision = no progress.

"Exploring" is the key word.

Is there anything wrong with the women's side? The men see to be having the problem. A girls academy for what? Make 6k a year playing in front of 1000 people at a high school in Oklahoma?

Grade levels are not involved and in fact throw away the u13 and u14 jargon
They will be called '01's and '02's etc....they will play against other '01's and '02's

Worrying if your DD will have a conflict with her high school soccer her freshman year is crazy....high school soccer is some of the worst on the planet....you're better off not playing high school so you don't pick up bad habits

Isn't the point of playing soccer to have fun?

I went and watched a lot of high school soccer this year and saw bleachers relatively full and cheering crowds. Club soccer - just parents and the occasional boyfriend or grandparents.

Kids love to play high school soccer. Who cares if it somehow slows their "progress". High school is a lot more fun than club.

If your kid doesn't care & just wants to have fun then by all means play HS soccer. If their goal isn't to at college soccer than quitting club & playing HS instead makes a heck of a lot more sense! Most kids won't play in college anyway. Have more fun & save a ton of money just playing HS.
