I saw three of them watching the late game for FC Portland tonight at the Showcase. They had their Thorns Patches on and everything.

They skipped the 3pm Thorns game. Knew it was a waste of time and needed to get a jump on their ex-teammates...

          Thorns finish 3rd at best!

3rd place out of 6 in FWRL. And could drop to 4th yet if PacNW happens to beat NWN in the final game. Not good for the most PROFESSIONAL organization in the region.

I'm sure all the OYSA U17 teams will be happy to play the Thorns in the OYSA split state cup in April. But what if the Thorns don't win that either????

Rumors of defections to ECNL already. Will the Academy even make it through spring league??

            Thorns Academy Winter 2 Schedule

The four showcase events we will look to attend in 2015 will be the NW Showcase Tournament, the Las Vegas Showcase tournament, Tacoma Showcase and the Colorado Showcase Tournament. We will also compete in the U18 OYSA Winter League and may need to participate in the U18 or U19 OYSA State Cup in April/May. If we qualify for Club Regionals by winning Far West Regional League, we will also travel to Idaho for this event in late June. Otherwise, Surf Cup could be an option if given the opportunity. As other events are offered, we will look at these and communicate if any might be an option for this group.

NW Showcase complete. Not a good showing. Should have done Eastside Winter Kickoff tourney instead.

May need to compete in the OYSA State Cup? Guaranteed now that they finished 3rd/4th in FWRL.

Surf Cup is now demoted to "could be an option"? Of course it is; you have to win something of note before you're invited.

And don't forget what the Timbers sold this as:

What is the mission of the Thorns Academy?

To be a pioneer in girls soccer and provide the first female academy program in the country,
while giving players a PROFESSIONAL structure to work in daily; to create a more COMPETITIVE environment for the ELITE female players with year-round training for the top players, showcase opportunities and ELITE competition; to bridge the gap between ODP, Academy, WPSL Thorns and the Thorns first-team and allow players access to the Thorns coaching staff and first-team training sessions; to create professional and collegiate soccer
opportunities; to enjoy these rare opportunities at a very affordable price.

              Yawn........

Too bad there is no soccer to talk about. This board has turned into a place that people goad each other on how crappy they are and how much money they are spending. I miss the old soccer days when we trash talked about who was going to win or why we lost and we complained about referees.

              THIS IS BEYOND BORING

You mean similar to all of the girls leaving the ECNL teams? Tom is losing them right and left. Three alone after Florida. All is not well in ECNL land. Wasn't his team that glorious team that all other team's were meant to emulate? Must not be so glorious, or maybe it was just too expensive.

Or maybe those girls just didn't measure up.

Should be fine going to the Academy then. Only need to be mediocre to finish mid-pack in FWRL.

As opposed to you need to be great to finish at the bottom of the pack in the ECNL? Someone needs a life.

Don't see too many of the Oregon ECNL teams at the "bottom of the pack". Not like the Thorns Academy, most PROFESSIONAL, UNLIMITED, WORLD CLASS, organization in the region - losing FWRL to nobodies. Good effort!

I think the Thorns are in the middle and some of the ECNL teams are as well. However, this could change once they play the Colorado and Washington teams. Maybe not .... who knows.

Didn't leave because of money. If you want to play "big girl" soccer there is a huge time commitment and girls decided they want to be HS girls. BTW it is also a financial comittment, time commitment, and self development and all 3 are needed

Losing to FWRL nobodies? It looks like they lost 1 game to the NW Nationals. I wasn't aware that they were nobodies. They also tied a game and won 2 games. Your argument is absolute silliness. Some of these girls may be much younger making it great competition for them. It reminds me of last year in NWCL when Crossifire ECNL has 5 13 year olds playing on their U18 team. It was great experience for the youngers and the emphasis was not on winning. Get over yourself.
