Thorns Academy cost capped at $3,600.

Thorns Academy cost capped at $3,600. That will draw a lot of people who cannot afford playing in the ec nl. Nothing wrong with a cheaper alternative that is ALSO high quality.

    Both are good options.

Yes, playing in the same league you would normally play in for $2000 more sounds like a bargain. Did you really need to start a thread for this? If your dd is already on a decent team have her stay with that team, play OYSA in the fall, do FWRL, NWCL and have her team try to enter in one of the bigger tourneys. It's the same damn thing, but probably less traveling to some centralized practice and she will still get to be with friends/team mates

Maybe you should detail what you get for your money. Or answer some common questions like; What does 'capped' mean? Does that mean any expenditures over that is picked up by the timbers? Or does that mean You won't travel as much, guaranteed? How many coaches? How many girls on the squad. What events are you doing?

Or better yet kill this thread, do we really need the ECNL and Thorns crowd arguing over nonsense on yet another thread?

The Academy is very attractive to our family. After some recent health issues we cannot afford much but if they can cap it then we know what were looking at. We are not poor by any means but don't have an unlimited budget.

A better option would be to stay with your current club and pay even less. Play more with a smaller roster. They will be in the same league as your dd.

I predict the Academy will be the top overall team as far as talent.

That's probably so but the "elite" teams will be good too. Now if you could combine the three them you'd have a powerhouse.

If they can manage to cap the costs that will be very attractive. Not every family can afford the more expensive options.

What they don't tell you is that you get what you pay for. And with the Timbers, you don't get much.

The Academy will draw a lot of elite players. Too bad that we can't combine into one elite team in Oregon. Too many good options means more dilution.

Or you can pay two and a half times more and get the same quality in ECNL playing last place ECNL teams that are the equivilent of Medford and Eugene. At least you get to fly cross country for that wonderful opportunity.

You'll get plenty of travel and high level competition with either option.

                        Except with the Academy option.

The Academy will have plenty of travel and high level exposure just like travel teams from around here have done for years. The Academy will draw elite level talent.

With the ECNL option, you get lots of delusional parents who think that money will make their daughters into good athletes.

Class warfare. Just because we can afford something nicer for our kids were delusional? Nice. We don't think we can pay to make our dd elite but it will be a quality experience we know that.
