If GS gets fired from UP

UP isn't a top shelf program anymore....where have you been? Class act? Who lied to you?

Watched a game this year, looked like good players who may be poorly coached. Ugly soccer.

Just look at their recruits. That will tell you a lot. He's not even getting the top local players much less top national players. The local players he's getting are a layer down or two.

Went to a few games this past season & it wasn't anything like it was atmosphere wise 7-8 years ago. The crowd was super negative & many open places to sit. I remember rushing to get good seats before the crowds arrived. We got there late & had our choice if several great seating options.

That feeling of years past was sure not there. It was sad to see but no matter what anyone claims, we like to win & if they stop winning (like this year) then the crowds will disperse.

The Timbers had a lot to do with it. Before, UofP had a better record and won championships, The Timbers(USL) had not.

The financial value in entertainment was greater (at UofP) and Clive stirred people up in a good way about what was happening there. The Timbers were a side show to the Beavers baseball program.

Clive left us and his program (legacy) flattened. The Timbers were purchased, the Beavers abolished and $1m's were poured into the MLS brand. All attention was directed there. Entertainment dollars shifted, and so did players.

When youve got great fan support, players want to play there. Great players especially.

What happened to the UofP student fan base? The lack of fans in the student section has less to do with the economics of the MLS.

I did say that the Timbers had all to do with it. Lack of performance or success is more then likely the 2nd cause. But lets face it, the students as well like a lively crowd, so if the outside fans arent coming, neither do they.

Will never happen. GS is a class act and UofP is a great institution with a proud history in Womens soccer. Wining will never again come as easy as it has in past but UofP will always be a top shelf program and GS will continue to run it until he decides to stop.

So it was a down year. If one year mattered to UP, the baseball and basketball coaches would have been fired long ago. Baseball has been bottom dwellers in the WCC for awhile. But by all accounts, the coaches bring more than wins and losses. They're character guys. They fit the overall mission of UP. I suspect GS will be given the same latitude for the same reasons.

So lets dispense with all this nonsensical conjecture.

The outside crowd is and has been historically mostly pre teen girls and their parents. Who do you think watches women college soccer. I doubt if that really matters to the student section. UofP soccer has lost connection with the UofP students.

And UoP is far below those schools and has been for some time. The direction of the program isn't positive. So you can be happy with him and the status of the program or you can hope for a change and the hope to get back to making deep runs in the playoffs.
