What does WST do with their one good team leaving?

So what happens to WST, since their one good age group of girls is now all playing in the thorns academy?

    #2
Most all of their good teams get gutted

Any WST boys team over U15 have to deal with the Timbers Academy taking all of their studs. One of the few clubs in the area that develop players year in an year out good enough to play for the the Academy boys.

That's the reality of being the leader in Oregon on the boys side of things. Your best move on to a higher level.

While the rest get to enjoy playing High School Soccer and Classic soccer for the neighborhood team.

    It is what it is.

Have you ever wondered why the other clubs don't send players on to a higher level?

You ignored the fact that WST doesn't develop girls. They luckily had one good team that has been dismantled by the thorns academy leaving them nothing left. They pull in rec teams at older ages from Westside Warriors so they can field teams.

No need for WST to even have girls teams. THUSC and FCP do a fine job on the west side.

Thanks, suppose you want to tell my daughter that so she will go to another club? We are not going to your club for sure. She is happy where she is at, has a good team and coach at the level she needs. Nothing wrong with rec either. She will play in high school if she likes it and do track, but probably not club. Many will just quit club due to the attitudes, problems, politics, negativity, cost time, other sports and interests...is that what you want?

Probably - so his kid can make a team.

Only if that's what you want. And you know you do.

The WST 97 girls were #1 in the state by a wide margin. I guess if that's your definition of good then there aren't many other good teams in the state either from any club.

Yet they tied in league with WashT and got thumped at Regionals... The important word in your post was "were".

Actually you ignored that WST develops both boys and girls & its true they develop some of the best youth boys and girls in the area. Evidenced by the fact they are elevated to the Portland Timbers & Portland Thorns Youth Academy teams.

You seem to have a fixation on one team, from a program that has had over 500+ teams in the last 20 years.

Please move on to your next fixation.

Wait a minute isn't that exactly what everyone is saying is going to happen to the ECNL teams, and the response is "...but we will be playing top level competition".

So here you are saying the exact same thing to another team? Seem a wee hypocritical to you?

Not the OP you are referring to but it's pretty well known that WST doesn't really have a good girls program. That 97/98 age group, was all that. However, besides them, they have rarely gotten a girls team into premier, let alone do well versus in or out of state.

Pretty much have the girls program to help pay for the boys on scholarship.

                              Comparing

any boys or girls club program to the WST/WSM makes them all look pretty pathetic.

                              Good point.
