Which is a lot more than we can say for the OYSA Timbers league.

the best teams from Oregon are actually in the USSDA program.

The best girls teams in the country play in the ECNL.

The OPL now has the weakest make up of teams in it's short history. So be it.

          Bu12 (02's)
          Last year OPL results:
          OYSA: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 9th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th
          OPL: 5th, 8th, 10th, 11th

          Bu13 (01's)
          Last year OPL results:
          OYSA: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, 11th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th
          OPL: 7th, 9th, 10th, 12th

          Bu14 (00's)
          Last year OPL results:
          OYSA: 1st (FC Portland is playing in the OYSA league), 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 11th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th
          OPL: 4th, 10th, 12th

On the boys sides its very lopsided talent wise, but we were all expecting that.

          Last year OPL results:
          OYSA: 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 12th, 15th 16th
          OPL: 3rd, 6th, 8th, 11th, 13th, 14th

          Gu13 (01's)
          Last year OPL results:
          OYSA: 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 14th, 16th
          OPL: 1st, 4th, 6th, 9th, 13th, 15th

          Gu14 (00's)
          Last year OPL results:
          OYSA: 3rd, 5th, 6th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 14th, 15th
          OPL: 1st, 2nd, 7th, 8th, 13th, 16th

So in each of the girls division OPL only managed to keep 6 of hte top 16 teams from last year in their league, and in U12 and U13 only 3 teams are from the top division from last year.

Overall looking at those numbers its pretty clear which league has more competition in it.
FC Portland playing in OYSA Fall league? Are you sure? What about Crossfire, then? is this fact or fiction?

If I was a boys team in the OPL I would be insisting that our team was switched to the OYSA league. That is just a joke. The OPL could hold that league over two weekends in September.

Yeah right, in most of the age groups quantity and quality is now in the same league. Feel free to stick your head in the sand however.

I really only care about the age groups my kids play in and those are stronger in the OPL.

And when you look at HS girls, even with all of the best players going to ECNL, the OPL is still much stronger than OYSA, who lost their only good team to the Academy.

The reason I put the finishes in fall league last year is it shows that both quantity and quality. In this case both seem to be shaded towards OYSA side.

Yes at Bu14 the list I saw had FC portland playing in OYSA league. If you look at that age group from last year it makes sense for them, they were a top team and everyone else pretty much all went OYSA. I don't think I saw any other teams from FCP/Thusc/Cross who jumped to OYSA.

Here are some of the theme's I noticed from the outlier clubs.
                      BSC is supporting OYSA
NEU went both ways, they seem to being going on a team by team basis
VFC (corvallis) seems to have gone OYSA
Pacific seemed to go team by team
                      PCU is supporting OYSA

Interesting you stopped at U14. What does it look like past grade school and middle school?

I'm not sure the OPL can even support a HS league now. They had to combine age groups last year and you just pulled out 2-3 teams worth of players for the ECNL teams from each age group. The HS leagues really need to be combined.

I stopped at U14 simply because in fall thats where it stops for both genders. The HS age groups are later in the year.

OYSA had to combine age groups also so it's no difference really. The best HS players don't play in either OPL or OYSA.

The truth is neither of these leagues make their money off HS age groups. Youth soccer in general makes all its money for youth, not highschoolers. It doesn't matter if your in OPL or OYSA it matters how good you are and if you can get exposure to college recruiters (or Timbers/thorns if you want to skip college). There are many ways someone can get exposure, so in the end youth soccer is what we all know it is, a money grab. Every club both in OPL and OYSA do it for the money. If they didn't care about the money there wouldn't be so much politics going on.
