The ECNL teams have much more to worry about that than the Academy. As to the cost issue, you assume that paying more gets you more. In a start up ECNL environment with the same coaches that have been around here forever and have not proven much out of state, along with two teams with pretty limited talent, and two clubs with significant issues (one has leadership issues the other financial), then to think you will get more by paying more is laughable. In fact, one will get less by paying more. Good competition is the only thing that is a given for the Portland ECNL teams. The next most likely given is that they will receive some large losses on a fairly consistent basis.
There are a lot of uninformed assumptions here. You look foolish.

Does it make sense to you now?
It's not going to be 22, that's the ECNL number and only 18 travel which means that 4 stay home when they travel. That means zero playing time for those players. The bottom 2-4 on an ECNL get little time when they travel, if you don't know that then it's going to be a big surprise. So if you are a top player, you get lots of time in ECNL. For a bottom player, you don't. So you better hope that your dd is a top player. Otherwise, it's just more games that she watches from the bench.

This happens on all top teams. This should be no surprise to anyone.

Thorns Academy info doc on Timbers site says they will be taking 22-25 players...

Email says 85 players signed up for tryouts. Doubt all will be there the first night due to conflicts.

Yes I made a mistake the Academy roster was announced at 26. Yes 18 will see the field each game but you do not know how many will ask to travel for any single game. when it comes to the showcases are they going to tell a girl who they rostered that even though she is willing to pay the fee she can't go/play?

That is not what was represented in their 7 page announcement.

The only problem with that is only one team has 22 players. Additionally from experience a team benefits from having 20 payers because at this age 2 players are injured at any one time

85 players for one team and some of the ECNL teams are struggling to find 18 players. Appears the pro ECNL crowd on this board is largely one or two posters.

By the time the girls are this age a player can easily play an entire match and many coaches use players the whole game. Being 2 players down when you have 16 is more play time for everyone. 2 players down with 20 just means you go EVERYWHERE with a full roster. So who benefits?

Where are these 85 players magically coming from?

On our WST team, you have to EARN your playing time! You don't bring it on the field, you come off....but you still get some playing time. Like it should be. I sure hope the Onyx players that made the CU team without trying out can bring it. And I hope the girls who actually DID show up for tryouts get the time back that they put into tryouts. Unvelievable to get a free pass and everyone else has to try out.

Actually word is that some of them left CU and went to other teams. If you're not one of Tom's girls, you don't stand a chance.

So 14 for the Copa team and 11 from the other 71....sounds fair to me!
