I guess that didn't happen.

The current U16 Copa (rising 17) is down a few players from last year, they need numbers. Using what is left of that team is a great way to start the Academy. I think the Academy is a great idea but lets be honest, it is nearly the same schedule the Copa teams had last year. Now they are just taking more players from the OYSA league. As far as the arguement about them not having a league to play in, well this isnt true. ECNL plays in the ECNLeague and FWRL plays in the FWRLeague. The FRWL teams will also play locally in games that are likely well below their level. I do wonder why a rising U16 would want to be on this team and play behind the 17's when they can play on their own Copa team and do the exact same schedule with less players.

Pressure to succeed
So the Copa team is going to be missing a few important players. What if they are not replaced in the tryouts and they don't win the FWRL and get to Regionals? Will the experiment be a success or failure. Will the Timbers follow through on the expansion?

If there is a deficiency in numbers, T.E. will always be glad to play favorites with some youngsters from her club. I think we will pass. My dd isn't that good, but what was out there didn't have the look or feel of 'academy' level play. She has opted to stay with her current group of girls.
