Why aren't the parents embarrassed

The fact that they don't aerate and sand the fields to provide drainage is a mystery.
After observing the turf color and quality for the past 8 years I doubt they have ever taken a soil sample to be tested to determine that the red clay needs annual dosages of lime to promote a healthy root system and leaf (blade) growth.
You are talking about $500 of gravel annually, $800 of lime annually and $4-6,000 per field for aeration and sanding.
These are not overly expensive actions for a $3,000+ member club that do not seem to be taken. I could be wrong but my eye say otherwise!

That all sounds fine and dandy, although with some of those prices you're quoting I can't help but wonder what planet you're living on.

With proper soil ph the grass plant needs less nitrogen and aeration allows what you do apply to actually get to the roots and not sit at the surface. So you can cut actually switch a portion of your fertilizer budget to lime and end up with a much healthier stand of grass.

Yes for $4-6 K you won't get the entire surface sanded but you will get the entire surface aerated and both boxes sanded. You can get 7 AC limed for $1,000 so that would cover all four surfaces but I suspect that they need two heavy treatments for a couple of years to get the right PH hence the $2,400 total.

The first step in the actual turf maintenance is to have soil samples taken from four points on each pitch then have a supplier determine the lime dosage. Then call one of NW Landscape turf division to get a bid on the aeration and sanding. Once you have those number go to the Board with a new budget for upgrading what you have!
Not sure which fields they have targeted for Turf first but I would concentrate the balance of the money on the other fields in the mean time!
