As I have been thinking about the hand wringing over the cost of ECNL and OR an equally competitive team I think that this is coming from younger parents whose teams didn't travel far and nearly every parent went to every game.
One of the things I don't think the parents of the would be ECNL teams are considering is that at the older age groups you don't get to spend much if any time with your player on the road leaving you as pure spectator.
In my experience around 40% of the parents traveled U15 and that dropped off to 30% U16+.
So when the discussion turns to what are the TOTAL costs for your DD to play ECNL IMHO the younger parents have a vision of what they are "used to" not what the reality of travel with older players typically looks like.
That being said I would love to get some feed back from other parents of U16+ teams that travel on the percentage of parents going to out of town events.
