Imagine the situation where you have 6 big clubs in a metro area. At U13, each of those clubs has 3 "top" players. By U15, those 18 "top" players have concentrated at just 1 of the clubs. All seems normal, right? And it would be if each of the 6 clubs lost and gained an equal number of players, ie. All 00's move to club "A", all 99's move to club "B", all 98's move to club "C", etc. But that's not what happens. Every year the top players from clubs "C" thru "F" move to clubs "A" or "B". No players from club "A" or "B" ever move to clubs "C" thru "F".

What causes this? It's certainly not random. What is the incentive that causes these players to just pick up and move clubs, all in the same direction, every year?

The answer is: "TA clubs have nothing to offer girl soccer players". The good one's get out as soon as they can.

Actually they might be better off starting their development at the TA clubs as this seems to have been very effective. Saves on gas money anyway and THUSC doesn't have anything to offer girls at the younger ages.

EST has developed many very good players of both genders. It is a shame that they piss of the parents of the female gender thereby allowing talent to erode. I imagine parents of boys have the same complaints about Crossfire Oregon or THUSC.

EST only has a handful of players. Most of the better female TA players are from Vancouver.

EST is pretty good at early development. They were far more interested in the boys side of soccer than they were girls with the exception of the money but this could have changed. Initially this was probably predicated on the thought that girls do not go on to play professional sports, that soccer is simply a social ******, and that if you can get enough girls in the door then you can pay for some of the high level boy's scholarships. As far as EST having only a handful of good payers, and that of those most of the females came from Vancouver I think you have your facts wrong.

Why not use specific examples.

Do you think that current D1 players who lived in Gresham, Clackamas, Happy Valley and Oregon City, Sandy were overshadowed by their Vancouver counterparts?
Most of the players of note that moved from EST to the western clubs, did so at the high school age when talent naturally began to consolidate in order to compete well. Absent the training that was received during the early years at EST who is to say that THUSC would have been so dog gone interested in attracting EST girls.

Don't forget the striped uniforms. Gotta have those if you are going to pull one over on the visiting teams who are expecting referees. I wonder who made the call to ECNL HQ to tell them they didn't have referrees? Probably left that task to some office admin so she could take the heat.

EST is not good at development. They pull from a large area, pick the biggest and most athletic then teach them to play overly physical soccer. It works at younger ages. The better players eventually move over to better clubs and the leftovers physically beat the crap out of teams from there on out.
