Westside's teams, other than maybe one, are weaker than even weakened OPL teams would be. To drive to Eastside or Vancouver in the early evening would be unbearable for most (Vancouver to Hillsboro isn't bad but the other direction is gridlock). Even if those clubs had the top teams around, the OPL girls are most likely staying where they are.
The Westside TS (Tualatin-Sherwood) teams at U14 appear to be potential options. They are leagues better than the Westside Beaverton girls teams in this age group.

According to people I have spoken and looking through their records over the past couple of years, their Copa TS team has qualified for Far West Regionals and their Samba TS team was consistently in the top 15 when everyone played in the OPL at U11 and U12.

I have seen both of these teams play this past year and they are clearly better than our current "B" teams. I am going to have to see what the commute from Beaverton is like to get down to Tualatin & Sherwood.

I have also looked at BSC as their team in this age group appears solid as well. Not as big of a club in the older age groups but maybe an option.

My daughter still wants to be on a team that is competitive and what is now leftover after ECNL tryouts is nothing close to what these other teams still have to offer.

I started this thread to see what other options may be out there because staying to play on a weak "B" team sounds pretty crummy.

It's not that bad, we Westside TS (Tualatin-Sherwood) have kids that already come over and some that go to Bvtn. take the back roads - nice drive once your over the hill.

        Serious concern, for sure

I am nervous about the state of the OPL. My daughter is NOT ECNL talent level. She likes to play, has had fun, over the years but does not envision herself going to college to play soccer. She wants to play in high school. That's her goal.

We played in a very watered down spring OPL league this spring. Was essentially THUSC/FC/LO-Crossfire and a rec team from Forest Grove (they had NO business even being in this 2nd division OPL league)---so, as a parent, if you are NOT good enough to play ECNL---they are basically having you play a bunch of "B" and "C" type teams and even some hybrid rec teams. I am worried, have brough this to the attention of our DOC, several times, with basically a 'shrug of the shoulders' type response of "I don't know what to tell you"---bottom line--it's the kids that will suffer with the lack of competition due to the adults politics.....uggghhhhhh.

In WA, the two ECNL clubs B teams are generally pretty compettheitive, often competing in the top division of the RCL. They generally have some players who are close to ECNL material, but didn't quite make the cut. Rarely, however, are the Best teams good enough to win a state championship, but some have come close.

Don't see why the same thing couldn't happen in OR, although the split league structure might work against that.

You can't compare the WA ENCL teams to Oregon. They get 80-100 kids trying out for those teams, so their B teams are made up of a huge pool. Its just a different situation completely. Their B teams from u11 and up are usually able to compete with our A teams, that doesn't happen nearly as often down here.

Not any good players anyway.

If our "B" teams have to play the top U14 girls teams from the OYSA side they will not do well. Can't really blame them as they will be significantly out gunned in those match-ups without our ECNL girls.

But hey, they can say that they are in clubs that have ECNL programs. And, the TA people can say they wear MLS patches. It will be fun for all.

We, on the other hand, will be doing the elite thingy so you all can fend for yourselves.
And by 'elite' you mean the exact same team you had last year when it was not called ECNL and the teams were middle of the pack Statewide.

Well, unfortunately, yes. Our new U14 ECNL team is essentially our U13 club team from this past year with a couple of new players. We will probably get it put on us a bit this year. But, my daughter wants a higher level of competition and I have to say I admire her for that. Fingers crossed that it goes well.

Quit posting to yourself, TA TROLL ALERT. Jealous because of ECNL. Jealous because he's stuck with the Timbers.

Stop your bs, your talking to yourself and you probably don't even have a dd playing soccer. If you do she's probably on a c or b team with the Timbers.

Hey, guy. I spent the last two days watching my daughter try out for an ECNL team that is essentially her current U13 team. I am the one footing the bill and willing to give it a go to see how this all turns out. But, I am skeptical.

However, if you want to cover my expenses for me than I am happy to do your bidding. Otherwise, you are better off to keep your mouth shut. Based on the turnout I witnessed for two days we can't afford to lose any players.

I'm not saying the OR B teams will be as good as the WA B teams, just like it is unlikely the OR ECNL teams will be as good as the WA ECNL teams. But I don't see why, with time, the B teams for the ECNL clubs couldn't be reasonably competitive, in OR.

Its because we just dont have enough good players to go around. taking up to 24 of the top players for the ENCL just doesn't leave enough quality to build that B team up without taking a lot of good players from other clubs. Now if you took 5 players from all the other big clubs then it might be possible to have a good B team, however, I personally don't see that many kids from all the other clubs leaving their current A team to playon the B team just because the B team is part of an ENCL club.
