Dumb and Dumber

Possibly one of the dumbest things I have read in a sea of dumb things in here in some time.

Unless your child is good enough to play on the 1st team - they shouldn't be "playing up". This is a commonly known and accepted position. In fact, some clubs are now making that a rule.

The purpose of playing up is to match an exceptional player with a greater skill level and speed of thought, with players that can challenge those areas better and hopefully help them grow.
All that would be accomplished by having someone play up on a B and C team is exposing them to injury and more brutal style of play and increasing the ATHLETIC degree of difficulty, not the mental and skill level, what would be the point in that?
I will go one further and say that PLAYING up, particularly before U14, is generally a bad idea, but many more exceptional players should be TRAINING up, (with A teams).
Kids should be playing on age while training up, there is nothing wrong with dominating games and being better than everyone, if you want to succeed at the higher levels and out of state at the end game with teams, then you need to let the individuals who can dominate with skill do so at the earlier ages, not keep upping the athletic degree of difficulty and trying to make them average players on an older squad.

They should play up if they can start on the older team - if they want. Some enjoy being a king superstar on the younger team! Exceptions should be made either direction if the older team is much more competitive in their age group or if the younger team is much more competitive, maybe they can get enough of a challenge on age. Every case is different.
