Two high school game nights, two high school practices the other nights, and then running off to Liberty two nights. Common FC, you have lost it. Four nights a week during the rest of year, not to mention the travel. No ECNL teams in CA or anywhere do this during school. This is a couple of coaches gone nuts. Again, it's not about what's healthy for the kids, it's about trying to build an empire. Your kids are being treated like cattle.

And to the rabid ECNL fanatics, before you hit me with an "if you can't do this obscene schedule you don't have what it takes", let me save you the comment by saying, you're right. I don't have what it takes to drive my kid into the ground so that some club can try to build an empire and further inflate their egos. I don't have what it take to screw my DD's high school education to chase an unrealistic fantasy. I don't have what it takes to drink the cool aid and believe that without one, and I mean ONE, night to focus on studies or just plain recoup you sanity during the week is a good idea. I don't have what it take to send my daughter the message that what defines her is soccer and soccer alone, and not academics, social connections, family time, and or any other interests beyond of soccer.

If you think this is a good idea, whether you have a superstar or superdud, you need to have your head examined.
Ditto. Maybe they aren't familiar with high school soccer. They play or practice 5 days a week. To add 2 ECNL practices on top of this will ruin the players. Outrageous

You people act like GS has no experience managing players and their health issues. Do you have any idea ofthe medical and physio staff at his disposal. He has managed players and their training for years. This is a different deal than you people know about. And no, I do not believe that any of you on here have been at that level .

What you are saying makes all the sense in the world. Unfortunately, life is full of difficult choices. Personally, if I was playing ECNL I would (1) talk with my high school coach and try to find a resolution and (2) if they weren't willing to work with me I would likely choose to play ECNL and forego high school soccer altogether. Some may choose the opposite. You gotta do what makes sense for you.

What an amazingly ridiculous piece of twisted logic and commentary. If you had even a clue what you were talking about or half a brain, you'd know that the medical and training staff aren't going to have anything to do with the youth teams other than to say "yep, she better go to see the doctor". But even if they did have anything to do with it, I can't believe the complete idiocy of your statement. It's not about messed up knees or shin splits getting managed. It's about your kid's mental and psychological well being. Does that even register for you? The kids are going to need psychiatric counseling more than a medical/training staff. I swear there are some serious nut jobs out there. Makes me wonder sometimes if we should have laws about who can vote and procreate.

            Hear hear.

You have no idea what training and medical staff are available onsite. They can mend up any worn out bodies.

You all are cute acting like you know anything. This will be unlike anything you've ever seen. 5 days of HS soccer and 2 days two exnl per week is totally doable. I have great faith in the staff.

Exactly!! Why do you think they are going to practice at the University of Portland? It is for the crack medical staff on hand at that fine Jesuit university.

Or, if you parents are real serious about this you will do what ECNL players in other states do and hire your own Personal Trainer/Massuese/Dietician.

It is time to go big or go home!

The physician who wrote the following article wrote it for people exactly, and I mean exactly, like you. Crazy thing is, you still won't get it after you read it.

Went throug it years ago, and the thought of three lame practices a week has me feelin for you buddy.
Can you shed some more light on this comment? Which age group are you referring to?

You are missing out on a great thing, supporting OUR Portland Timbers. Too bad for you. I guess it hardly matters... sellouts every game with a ticket waiting list > 10,000. It is a fun venue, a fun team, an atmosphere to die for, and you want to take your ball and go home.
Wow, you must be really dumb. There are a lot of Seattle transplants living in Portland and people who are disgusted with what is happening in youth soccer here.

Oh, and the Timbers SUCK! Check them out sitting in last place.

They are not going to practice this much during the HS season because not only would be harmful to developing bodies students have homework to do. FC put that up WITHOUT any first hand experience and REALITY will cause them to adjust. The NW ECNL teams practice only sparingly during the HS season.....chill out people!
