    FC Portland and ECNL

I can't help but wonder how FC Portland will survive their third attempt in a national league by themselves. Will third time be the charm that breaks their back or will they beg another big donor to bail them out again?

Looking at FC's teams from top to bottom, they are no where near strong enough to compete in the ECNL. They know this which is why they have been desperately mass emailing people to come tryout. They KNOW their current players who they "developed" are not good enough and are desperate to recruit anyone in they can.

What are the under/over odds for FC failing? I'd say 60/40 at least.

Tryouts for ECNL are open to everyone, you really can't seem to grasp that.

That is impressive. It only took an FC forum monitor 2 minutes to respond.

Tryouts are indeed open to everyone. Mass emails are effective when you know your own teams have no chance. Time to recruit new players in to replace your current players.

But I thought FC develops such great players? What's going on here?

Your just mad because what few talented girls you have over there at OYSA/TA will no longer be there.

I'm a THUSC parent and my daughter will tryout and hopefully be playing in the new Crossfire United ECNL club...but I hope FC Portland succeeds. Why would anyone wish for failure from any club? They are attempting to better their club and take a risk with the ECNL program.

Every club has to decide what they feel is best for them. Westside, Eastside, etc. decided to create an alliance. THUSC and Crossfire decided to create partnership through a new ECNL club. FCP is going it alone. Individual clubs make decisions for their club families. Will every move have immediate success? Maybe not but I see no reason to wish for failure for any club.

            By the way...good luck to THUSC U13, U14, U15, U16 & U18 in the finals this weekend!

Timbers Lemmings are just trying to cause a rift. There is no rift and will not be one. Just ignore them. They are extremely jealous.

if OPL and OYSA were joined those 5 finals would drop to 1 or 2

If they were joined it would be East Side by midway rule change.

Really, what do you expect when you play in a 3 team league and you spout off about your team being in the final 2. You should expect some push back.

FC has always been better at managing their perception than developing players and teams.

Every ECNL club does it. The ECNL is about bringing all the top talent together and showcasing them on a regional and national stage.
Reading this board there is a consensus that one of the main issues with the Portland area is that there are to many clubs and the talent is spread to thin among those clubs.

This is the perfect setting for ECNL. The top talent now have two clubs/teams to migrate to vs. "to many". Recruiting is a way of life at top clubs just like in the business world where the top talent is a hot commodity. To pretend that upper level youth sports is or should be immune to recruiting is absurd. It simply isn't how the world works people.
Question: are the people who are opposed to "recruiting" the ones that aren't getting recruited? I find it hard to believe if your the "recruited" that you have any issues with it?

If this is poorly developing players, count me in!! I can think of many not even on this list.
