Can anyone tell me just one thing that the OPC/OPL has done since their inception that has changed soccer for the better in Oregon ? Not the clubs that belong or play in the OPL, but the Oregon Premier Council.

Is it their mission to "change soccer for the better"? Or is it their mission to provide a league and other miscellaneous services for their member clubs so that their member clubs can, in turn, better develop youth soccer players. We don't need an organisation like OYSA to "change soccer for the better". That suggests that the individual clubs are not capable of fulfilling their missions. If that is truly the case, adding another layer of government (OYSA) isn't going to change anything.

        No. It is about control.

Actually, it is about money. When the OPL stood up to Gavin and refused to pay the extortion he was demanding he split soccer again.

And what OYSA done? They have a lot of kids running around in white and red with MLS patches on their sleeves. Everyone in the OYSA, rec included, are subsidizing the timbers professional DA program but not subsidizing ODP. They split soccer reducing the quality for all top players in the state. They have taken a my way or the highway approach.

The Timbers have a pretty good racket going. They get kickbacks from their TA clubs via uniform sales. They take a couple dollars from registration fees to subsidize their academy, and they control youth soccer. You have to admit they pulled off a good one.

The presentation from USYS that someone posted on this site a while back even admitted that the ECNL is being done right. So why fight it? The Timbers should support that program if they are really interested in bettering soccer. Just like all the other clubs who send their boys to the Timbers DA program.

The truth is that the Timbers are about money and control.

So is your bone here with the Timbers, or with OYSA/Timbers/thorns league? I believe by applying for ECNL the thorns endorsed it as a strong program, it seems where the divide is is that you want them to say "(THUSC,FC,...) are the clubs that should have ECNL". You will hold your breath a long time waiting for that to happen. In the outside world each of the OPL clubs trying to get ECNL is seen as doing it for two reasons, money and control. Before you bark about club greatness etc... Reflect, every conversation starts oh ECNL will be great because it will concentrate all the talent in one club (control/money). It will allow players the only way to reach this level of competition (money/control)

Obviously folks within those clubs have drunk the cool aid to believe they are the only well intentioned organization around...they should know however very few other people believe that.

Id rather be part of an organization that aligns clubs rather than an incompetent and money hording organization who has really really unintelligent people who seem to feel the need to say anything even if it makes then sound stupid.

Got an idea. Let's scrap oysa and all go back to opl. Back to terrible development structure and money hording. This is all on the idea that they had all the teams and still did a terrible job. But let's do that anyway.

Are you kidding? Do you really believe this? The clubs being accepted into the ECNL are the only clubs who qualified. Gavin demanded (and reasonably so) that all clubs support the Timbers DA program. The ECNL is essentially the same things for girls and anyone who is genuinely interested in improving girls soccer should support these programs regardless of who was awarded them.

It turns out the Timbers are on a crusade to push people away from the ECNL so they can can control soccer. This has always been their agenda. It was never about improving soccer. It is about control and money.

So the Timbers create this Thorns academy that will play where? In a few tournaments? They have no league to play in beyond an OYSA league. How will this benefit girls?

People have repeatedly said on this site that talent is too diluted to compete outside Oregon. Now we have programs coming to Oregon that enable us to consolidate top talent and compete and the Timbers and their TA drones are out en mass attacking the ECNL and creating this Thorns academy.

It is shameful what the Timbers are doing. They are not unifying soccer. They are manipulating soccer for their own profit. This is exactly why US Soccer across the country continues to grow while USYS continues to shrink. It is this small minded approach that holds soccer back in the US.

Who develops players? The league? Or clubs and coaches? This is how OYSA and USYS is wrong and failing and you fools don't know the difference.

ODP costs $1,400 a year under OYSA. It cost the when OPL was the primary competitive league.

Yea? Tell me how OYSA is improving development? You want to complain about OPL not reinvesting their money (and they were wrong for not doing so) yet accept the Timbers skimming from youth soccer via uniform fees in their TA clubs and OYSA player cards. Seems rather hypocritical to me... or you simply don't know what you're talking about.

You have to play in a league to develop and get noticed?
I didn't know that that was a requirement.

ECNL will come to portland in 2015 and you freaks will be sh!tting yourselves when you find out who gets

You're right........... the Thorns can practice a lot and feel really good about how good they are when they practice together. Maybe they can scrimmage another rec team in the area to prove how great they are.

                            Stupid comment.

ECNL is here and that is why the Timbers are freaking out.

I love it! Another 12 months of talking about who is going to get an ECNL designation...and only 7,000 more posts contradicting each other. It really is entertaining.
