Maybe they said there premiere team won the National title last year. Think that would help?

ECNL is at maximum capacity. There are zero complexes that can hold events such as showcases without being overbooked. Showcase tournaments can only hold so many teams at one time. The problem that they are having is mainly this. They will probably not take any new clubs until they trim the bush of poor clubs. Would they round things out to an even 80 clubs? maybe. But lets just look at demographics and conferences since you want to do that. Portland Metro has 2.8 million people. The conference for which you refer can condense into 1 conference of 10 teams quite easily. On the other hand, using your logic…Miami metro is 5 million people with arguably the same rich soccer tradition or better and adding two teams from there would round out the SE conference to 10 teams. There are many options if they are going to decide to add. Just don't think that they will

The Thorns won the national title last year, yes, why would that help? Are they going to play in ECNL themselves??

You are so misinformed. Get out of Oregon and learn!

If they did, they probably wouldn't win it...

They also both canceled games against each other as they had a league game that weekend vs each other. As for DeAnza you did not play the ECNL team it was a reserve and pickup team. Look at what west coast did to onyx 5-0. Look at what the ECNL teams did to them in that tourney back east. If they go to ECNL they will soon discover the full strength teams. Onyx is good and I'm sure they'll place top 20. Onyx has a great mids and good forwards squad but there defense is suspect, the ECNL teams will run scores up on them. For the record you will never see full blown ECNL team play unless it's at a league game or showcase. Every event in between is used as training games.

They went 67-7-7 last year and you think the defense was suspect. Most teams don't play 3 defenders like Onyx. I will say the defense is struggling this year but that is due to making changes and time will tell if it makes us stronger. The defense has given up speed for size and so far the goals against is also up. Hopefully this is a short term adjustment and communication on the back line will improve then the goals against should start to drop. Time will tell but for Onyx to get better they need ECNL!

Your earlier point seemed to be that the Thorns had no track record.

It seems that as a club winning the National title would give them some credibility as a club.

I would take FCP 02g teams over all teams listed above any day. Twice on Sundays.

They have NO TEAM!!!!!! Do you understand??? The thorns could win 50 titles, why does that matter and how is that a track record when we are talking about an ECNL team??? The track record would be the success of their academy or club teams, of which they have NONE. ZIP. NOTTA. Do you understand?????

No Club in the Area that strong for ECNL

Lets face it, none of the area clubs can do it. None.

Until we get over ourself and pool the best players to make this work, it will not happen.

Not FC, Not THUSC, Not Crossfire, Not Eastside, Not Westside.

To be honest, IMHO the Timbers/Thorns are the only group that can put the resource into this and make it work without pricing most everyone out.

                      Beat on that.

ECNL will pool the best players in Oregon!

Thorns are not a club. The TA clubs have no history of developing girls. Thorns have no history. The ECNL would never select a smoke and mirrors approach like this.

THUSC, Crossfire, and FC Portland all have history to varying degrees with THUSC being the most consistent and strongest right now with girls.

Spoken like a true THUSC Girls parent.

Unless all the clubs work together, this will not work. Look at what happened to FC when they tried to do the boys. They only took their U16 and U18 players to make a crappy run at it. No one wanted to work with them.

You think everyone will work with TA, drink more of that funny water.

You are right, Thorns are not a club but they are going to start a girls program and what player would not want to play for them. Believe it or not, I don't really care what you think. IMHO

                                Most likely scenario...

If Oregon gets any, they get one, and Washington gets a third. No way OR can support two competetive ECNL clubs. And ECNL is not going to add one OR club with no travel partner. So the most likely scenario would be if Oregon gets any, they get one and Washington gets another one to be the traveling partner.
