I would agree. My dd started what I would call select competitive at 9, playing up. Then a year at the old OPL D1 (her team did). Then moved to a large club and she was good enough to play on age and has now for 3 more years and still is. So talking about coaches, teams, etc. is not creepy. BUT, it can be obsessive. By U15 there are only 5 girls still playing from that original team of 17 girls. My thought being, it's a little silly to be on T/S obsessing about how good, bad your DK is, their team is, etc. It's all going to be a memory in another year or two. Yes, even if know your team is dedicated, wants to stay together, etc. It will be a memory, enjoy it.

It's difficult to understand until you've gone through the process once. As an example, my youngest is a G01. When she was U10, there were 3 teams in the area that won all the tourneys, won almost every game, basically dominated the rest of the teams. Fast forward just 3 years and 2 of those teams no longer exist at all. The third still exists in name but has none of the same girls on it and isn't particularly competitive. About 40% of the girls that were on those 3 teams at U10 no longer play top-level soccer. The other 60% still do but have moved to different teams that are all in the top 5 in Oregon/WA. I'm sure that if someone had told the parents of all these girls at U10 that this would happen, most wouldn't have believed it. But it did, and it continues to happen with each new age group as they work through the system.

I don't think anyone is arguing that point, parents or coaches. In fact it has been made several times and agreed to. The coaches themselves tell the parents to enjoy it now, let their kids develop and and have fun - all while finding a little success on the field too. Why put it down all the time? Maybe the run ends at U12? U13? U14?....who cares. Focus on today and you will enjoy soccer more.

Agreed. For the vast majority of kids (95%+) competitive soccer will end by the end of high school. Many well before that. I think I read somewhere that over 50% of the kids playing soccer at U10 are no longer playing at U15. So, if you're in the 95% (and most who are honest with themselves about their kid's potential will put them in this group) have fun, win some trophies, and don't get all caught up in the drama. It's the parents whose kid is 50% at best but who thinks their kid is 99%+ that causes most of the grief, and does a lot of the posting on this site...

Yes talking about the "girls" is creepy. Talking about soccer being played by the girls should not be. It is sometimes critical, sometimes comical, but that is exactly what this forum is for....hence it's name.

ok, tell your friends, family and co-workers that you are chatting in an anonymous chat room with a bunch of strangers about your 10 year old daughter playing soccer.

                Go on, do it.

Report back on the response you get. Even better, put it on youtube.

Tell your co-workers that you are lurking on a thread about 10-yr old girls soccer telling people it is weird. Oh wait, judging by your responses you probably don't have a job or co-workers to talk about. Try your dog....

And this thread is about the soccer they play, coaches, parents, and team, not about the girls themselves.

Once they hit 7 years old it is ok. Anything before that is weirdo-land.

What if they are a 4-5 year old playing up because there are a super ultra elite, premium athlete with a golden leg that can boot it a mile and their parents and coach have instilled a winners mentality where they are literally capable of running through a brick wall to win a game and are playing a sophisticated, European style possession game, but they are doing it because they love it, not cause we make them, they just love collecting trophies, instead of barbies.

In that case it is totally cool, yeah?

It's all the post to come watch them play. Those ECNL coaches are already scouting them.

I see the ridiculous and absurd posters are back online today - kudos again for mocking.
