Weird when you talk with good plsyers and their parents, everyone knows ODP but id2 and pdp gets a huh? And some head scratches. Go figure.

Is it worth doing? Yes. It's free. It's a higher level of play than club so it can challenge the player. The player is "on the radar" for potential higher levels of competition. I don't see a downside to it. Just brush off the negative comments you see and have your player do this.

Practice is muscle memory based on repetition. When you are train just one or two weekends a year, it's doubtful that much of anything is retained more then a couple weeks later. The advantage to ODP is it is a longer period of training at a higher level of play and more frequently.
Not knocking the ID2 program, but dont think it's gonna make your lil kiddo the next superstar from that one session. Free is a very good thing. Not to mention, if you are invited to participate, it's something that can never be taken away from your players soccer resume.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostAgree. ID2 and ODP are apples and oranges. ID2 is an identification program - Go, enjoy it, and show your stuff over a weekend once or maybe twice/year. It is not an ongoing program like ODP. Both have their pros and cons, but the are entirely different types of programs. There also is nothing to preclude a player from doing both (assuming your club cooperates).
The important takeaway is that either id2 or ODP is another opportunity to play, and to learn something by playing with and against good players. There isn't a downside to either except ODP is in my opinion expensive for what players can get out of it. It doesn't have the benefit it did in the pre Development Academy and ENCL days.

The choice of participating in ID2 is not really an option for most Oregon soccer families.

Id2 is not always the best players. I have seen some kids attend id2 because their club coach pushed and helped them get it but were then cut from ODP regional championship roster. I actually think ODP / pre academy is the way to go if you are male. If you are female it's a crap shoot.

Last year ID2 took the best players on both the male and female side.
I am not sure who is invited this year, but the invites last year deserved to go.
The same can be said about ODP regional pool roster. I have heard plenty about players who made it because a coach pushed them thru. I am hoping this is not the case, but the same accusations have been made about ODP.

Id2 players are taken when club coaches push it. If they don't push, they don't get picked up. ODP has more open market try out. Is it perfect? No. But better on the boys side. Girls impossible to say as talent is spread all over the place between id2 ODP and ECNL.
